      What about http://osticket.com/ @Minion-Queen

Interesting you mention OSTicket because Comodo One is using OSTicket as their ticket system. Compare the two and you'll immediately see it's the same ticket system.

    • RE: Insight to PHP?

@G-I-Jones As Scott mentioned, HTML would render the form for your users and you would use PHP to process that form to send the email. PHP won't send the actual email, you'll need a mail server to do this, but PHP will take care of getting the information from the HTML form and adding the necessary bits and data processing to forward off your email.

One caution though...are you sending personal, private information via email? If you are, you may want to rethink your approach or at least take steps to ensure that your browser connection to the web server is secure (Let's Encrypt can help here) and that you are sending the email from a TLS enabled email server to a TLS enabled email server otherwise your data is open to interception while in transit.

Definitely more than one way to skin this cat, depending on your full requirements.

    • RE: Project: Home/SMB NAS Setup -- Need ur advice

If you plan on running the Plex app from the NAS, you're not going to be happy if you have need for any transcoding unless you're running one with one of the Xeon chips. Anything else and it'll be much too anemic to transcode. You'll get nothing but stutter and disappointment. If you have a separate Plex server and all you want to do is serve-up the files from the NAS, you'll do fine.

@NashBrydges said in Been Wanting 10Gb Lab For A While:

@Dashrender One of the servers in my lab is a file server with 56TB drive assigned to the VM. Backup and replication for this were the biggest drivers for looking to move to 10G. Not to mention who wants to wait for a large file to transfer over 1G 😉

Some of my customers are also moving to 10G in their networks which meant I needed to become more familiar with how best to setup and manage these. It's simple networking, true, but it made sense that I could demonstrate the benefits to clients when necessary.

Holy *&%&$ - you have 56 TB at home? What in some deity's name for?

      *other commentary that's meaningless -
damn that much storage must have set you back a small fortune
what are you doing running a piracy hosting site out of your house? 😛

I have a lot more than 56TB but that's just for 1 VM. It's local backup server also has 56TB. Also have another 8TB of SSD stprage to run an array of VMs. The file server is a Plex server for the family and also serves as shared storage for family and friends (remote CIFS storage added to a NextCloud VM). It's only about 70% utilized right now but it keeps growing as more family photos and videos are added almost every day.

    • Ubuntu Server 2 Network Interfaces whith 1 that is public + 1 that VPNs back home

I've got an Ubuntu server out on Azure (and before someone asks, Azure is perfect for this since it's included in my MS Partner subscription) that I'm using to learn and test on. I currently have a single network interface added and enabled and configured firewall rules to allow HTTPS and SSH traffic through. Here is what I'd like to do and I'm hoping I can get some pointers from folks with Linux experience here (I'm a newbie at Linux)...

I'd like to add a second interface to Ubuntu and have that interface VPN back home to me. The purpose would be to only allow SSH via the VPN connection and manage all admin tasks on VPN. I've already setup SSH keys to securely access over the internet but because I could use one of many devices to access the Ubuntu server, I'd like to be able to do this over VPN instead. I don't want all traffic on the VPN because I have a dynamic IP address so ideally, eth0 = internet facing for HTTPS traffic and eth1 = VPN that autoconnects back home to Sophos UTM for all admin related activities.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I overcomplicating things?

I love how so many people think they are experts on GDPR when even the people who wrote the GDPR rules can't clearly explain them. This goes both for people who fully assert that EU rules are enforceable abroad as well as those who couldn't imagine a world where that would be true.

Also love how only the first 10 posts related to the initial SW rant. Hahaha

Plus if I implement a solution such as this, and she finally does upgrade to a smart phone; I can then setup said smart phone with a soft phone and she could also receive the calls from home.

Just makes life a bit easier (assuming she freaking upgrades....)

At some point she's not going to have the option. My fiance is upgrading this summer thank god. I'm going to upgrade this coming summer as well. I wanted to get an Unbuntu phone but google pixel looks pretty cool. Idk.

I'm praying for the day her phone dies (and all flip phones are no longer supported)

I'm sure you could find a way to expedite the process. An accidental drop from a 10 story building or "accidentally" driving over the phone after it "accidentally" falls out of your pocket come to mind 😄

You know...stuff users do to get new laptops more quickly then their scheduled hardware cycle date. Lol

Or another way of looking at it.... from a personal ethics perspective. Would you fine it morally reprehensible to be a cop yourself (in the US, outside the US the systems are unrelated.)? My personal ethics would not allow me to accept pay as a cop, I think it is morally wrong within the context of how cops operate today. But that means, every cop was willing to cross that ethical line that I'm not willing to cross, and most people I know would not. So that's a very different way to think about it.

How would a cop and their families live on no pay?

By getting a different job. How do drug cartel workers live with no pay? They get ethical jobs doing something else. No one is "born a cop" just like no one is "born a drug lord". Those are choices people make based on what they want to do.

No one was born to be what they currently are now, they were born to live. WHat is an ethical job for you? Classifying all police work, army jobs and other institution jobs as unethical is not way compared to a drug cartel...

How is it different? Many people in a drug cartel are "good" people. Accountants, farmers, truck drivers... cartels pay for many good things like hospitals, town infrastructures, etc.

These are, from what I can tell, as close an analogy as you can get. They are extremely similar.

Comparing police officers to drug cartels is as assinine an answer as I've ever seen you give. Lol. Painting everyone with a different color is still broad brush and absolutism. I find that people who answer in absolutes aren't credible anymore.

My comment above was about this specific incident. I personally know police officers who I would trust with my life. Not all cops are bad. Most likely do good, even though there are a number of bad apples who gain most of the attention in the media when they're caught. When was the last time you saw a news story about a cop saving a life? Pretty rare from what I've seen. But an officer shooting someone, that's hot news.

@wirestyle22 said in Large Linux Samba Server On Hyper-V 2012 R2 - Caveats? Best Practices?:

So does the host file system (NTFS) not manage the partition the VM file system is on (XFS)? Is that why @scottalanmiller is saying to separate the two? i'm a little confused how the two interact or if they interact directly/indirectly.

From what Scott is suggesting, I would create 2 VHDX. One where I'll install Linux. The other to actually hold the data. This second VHDX will be mounted to the Linux VM from within the VM and formatted from within the VM. The host will create the VHDX container and the VM will format the container and mount the container for presentation to the users. Because the 2 VHDXs have different functions (one is to run the vistual machine OS and the other just to hold data), keeping them separate appears to present some advantages for their individual intended purpose.

The host will simply set aside the "data blocks" and the VM OS will format them.

It's still a trick, that price isn't per diaper its for a box of 100.

Other way to look at it...

12 condoms = 2 weeks to 1 month worth of product (ymmv)
100 diapers = you're set for 3-5 days based on how much your baby goes through them

    • RE: MySQL db refusing to start after Ubuntu 16.04.1 reboot

Ok, I started looking into the error.log file to get more info about what was happening. I found that there was an error about not being able to load something but the log file was pretty large so I created a new log file to replace this one and went to restart mysql so I would have the one attempt's worth of records to review. To my surprise, after having provided a new error.log file, mysql started up no problem. Not sure wtf that was all about or why it failed with the current error.log contents.

I'm removing mysql and starting from scratch to see if I can replicate the issue.
