I didn't know that, I didn't take a science class that specifically covered this. Interesting - I also thought the 'dark side of the moon' wasn't real (and yeah I know it really isn't) but also didn't realize that the far side of the moon is never exposed to the earth. Thanks

This was covered all through elementary science for me. It was seventh grade when the teacher decided that all science knowledge was wrong and that she knew better. She actually said to ignore all books because she knew from watching it that the moon didn't rotate.

I did a big demonstration in class to show her that her observations actually proved that it did rotate and that she didn't understand what rotation was.

      Someone got detenion that day...

    • RE: Active Directory - Recovery of deleted user .... from 2003

@thanksaj Problem is, they're a school district with little, if any, funding for IT. Backups are always an afterthought.
At least after this adventure, we might be able to convince them to convince the tech company they have on contract not to f up again, and to implement a backup solution.

      @NetworkNerd hahaa.... backups? What's that?
I think they were using just Windows Backup rather than paying for a solid backup app.

    • Active Directory - Recovery of deleted user .... from 2003

OK... here's an odd question... client has 2k8r2 AD server, but never raised the domain/forest level. User (financial guru) was deleted from AD (we believe) and we're trying to recover the account. We attempted the tombstone recovery, and we're not going to do the authoritative restore (as we're not billing the client...yet.)
If we raise the domain and forest level and enable the AD recycle bin, do you think we'd be able to see the deleted items in AD? Or are those lost when we raise the functional level?

    • Anyone familiar with Microsoft's SCSM?

I'm looking to pick a few people's melons regarding SCSM. I'm at my wits end and want to make sure that what I'm trying to do cannot be done... at least not in this revision.

my 2.5yr old boys went bonkers this morning when I showed them this. I was tempted to dress them up as minions, but Spiderman and Iron Man beat them out.

    • RE: MSP and remote management

@thanksaj Everything... from 'real-time' (read 5 minute) heartbeats to specific services running to logging, etc.

@coliver - I am in the same boat and feeling about Kaseya. We use it here in our district and it's awful. It's buggy, crashes, and the sales rep is not pleasant to work with... at all. That's why we want to jump ship ... esp if they tell us we have to pay for maintenance that we never used, on ALL licenses that we own... not just the one with pricing...

@Aaron-Studer - That's one of the vendors we're looking at... and honestly, the cheapest in terms of cost. Now the question is, how much would you mark that up for support?

    • RE: MSP and remote management

@thanksaj Looking really for server monitoring and possibly workstation monitoring. Kaseya has an ok product but the overhead is just too expensive. As it is now, we owe them a lot of money since our maintenance agreement lapsed (and the fact that they don't have a Net30/Net60 terms either doesn't help.)

    • MSP and remote management

      Hey Gang...,

I'm in need of some advice. During my 9-5 job, we provide support to local school districts and municipalities. We currently use Kaseya for some of our monitoring. Now, I'm not a fan of the app, and we're in a weird fininacial bind with them. So we're looking to switch.

At the same time, I'm looking to modify the services we offer. What is the average markup that you would have on a Remote Monitoring solution that shows you won't break their bank and you won't be in the poor house.

      Any advice would be great.

    • RE: OneDrive Now Unlimited For Office 365 Subscribers

I'd love to see other apps take advantage of this. Imagine putting your data store for Plex on there and stream your movies? What about using it for business, or personal backups? Now the only concern would be if they were able to search your drives...

    • RE: Remember that Hoverboard Hoax?????

@scottalanmiller I can see this in warehouse distributions points. I work in a warehouse that's over 5 football fields long with rows and rows of parts. Staff pick parts and then have to take them back to the loading dock. Imagine if you could use this tech for extremely heavy items, bulky items, or just a large order. The picker doesn't have to know how to operate a forklift, trudge a pallet jack, or exert a lot of force to move the product from point a to point b.
There is definitely real-world applications, just not in the consumer's hands.
