You need to reboot however so it shows the correct powershell version after the install. Did you do that?
Sadly. Several times.
Busy weekend. I'll have to get back to this next week.
The ignition for this was the desire to start using Chocolaty. It has been one obstacle after another to get it off the ground. And know this, my goal is to get Powershell updated, .Net updated, and Chocolaty installed all from scripts within a backstage connection through SC.
So there are tons of scenarios that have to be worked out, and handled, all through scripting.

Do you have WMF 5.1 installed?
That's the gui installer I'm going to install to see if it works. If it does, I should then be able to install it again with -force, or use Chocolaty with the upgrade option and see it go smoothly.

Might be as simple as PS5 not being in the normal path. Check its absolute path.
That would have been too easy

There is only one powershell installation and it is at:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Which is right where it belongs. I'm running the stand alone gui installer now to see if that works.

@JasGot Choco is returning the version the Choco has installed, it is not returning the version that is selected by default when you execute the PowerShell command. I guarantee you have multiple versions installed side by side.

RE: ChromeBook Tablet with LTE?posted in IT Discussion
I'm noticing that most tech articles suggest (between the lines) that tablets with Chrome OS are still long way from main stream. And they imply Android is still the best choice.
So I started looking for information on an Android tablet could be re-initialized with the Chrome OS at a later date. Not much on that topic out there...

I think I'll use an old I-Pad for my "I'm too old to see Waze on my smartphone" problem this weekend. And pick up the whole Chrome OS Tablet thing in another couple of months......

Now this is something I can explore. Thanks for finding this. I don't often go browsing at ubnt.com so I am grateful to you for pointing this out. I'm going to do some reading on it right now and see who has them in stock for delivery tomorrow..... Thanks again!

These are nice and I just took another look at them. It can be made to mount into a wall opening, but it worries my that it is only 24v. I always have a fear that some know-it-all will push 48v into and I'll end up having to deal with any problems it causes. So I pass on this one....... Especially since I just saw your next post!

In-Wall PoE Switchposted in IT Discussion
Has anyone found and used a current production alternative to the NJ2000G INTELLIJACK - JD057A switch? I love those little guys, but they don't make them any more (EOL 2014) and I just had one go swimming in an office basement flood.

retitle this thread "chromeos tab"` instead of "chrome tab". those are two totally separate things.
Right, and maybe tablet. Chrome the browser has tabs. ChromeOS the OS has tablet options. But the tablets are called Chromebooks, even when tablets.
Or ChromeOS Slate...
Not sure what you mean.
Pixel Slate.

Does the OWA screen populate even if you do not login to ecp? Is it the fact that you visited the /ecp first, or that you logged into /ecp that allows /owa to work?

RE: GPO questionposted in IT Discussion
@WLS-ITGuy said in GPO question:
@JasGot said in GPO question:
net accounts /domain

Which is interesting to know but I guess helps me figure out why they can't change their passwords.
And there you have it! Your GPO is preventing the exchange server from allowing the password to be changed any more often than 30 days. Come back in a month and it'll work.

So, I would leave the complexity in place, and set the Min Age to zero days. (All in the GPO on the DC)
Also, since my clients always put off changing their password until they can't..... I would implement this on your CAS/OWA server so they can change their passwords even after it has expired. On the Client Access Server (CAS), click Start > Run and type regedit.exe and click OK.
Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange OWA.
Right click the MSExchange OWA key and click New > DWord (32-bit).
The DWORD value name is ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled and set the value to 1.Note: The values accepted are 1 (or any non-zero value) for "Enabled" or 0 or blank / not present for "Disabled"
After you configure this DWORD value, you must reset IIS. The recommended method to reset IIS is to use IISReset /noforce from a command prompt.

Does NC allow exposure of their "file shares" as smb? If you have users that can't / don't want to use a browser-based access they can always mount it in windows explorer via webdav. Alfresco allows (allowed?) access via both, but the last time I played with it the performance was meh, which I attributed to it being built on java...
You can mount NextCloud into a drive letter or folder using WebDav.
The question does become the aforementioned performance issue (if there is one).
I wonder how file locks are handled when using WebDav?
There are a few topics elsewhere here where file locking and cloud hosting were discussed. You do have to give up what we have all come to appreciate in file locking. Here is a response in one of those other topics I spoke about:
@scottalanmiller said in file sharing in the 21st century:
@Donahue said in file sharing in the 21st century:
I am aware of that. It's online locking that I am after. Though, I will concede that any locking scheme has to plan for both online and offline. I like sync because of local performance and offline availability, but it really feels like it is best for non shared files. When you add multiple users into the mix, almost everything goes out the window, especially when and if they go offline.
Everything is best for non-shared files

SMB shines at "always online, always nearly local" files because it handles offline so poorly. It's a balance. To handle offline or very distant (e.g. high latency) networks well, you have to sacrifice locking.
