RE: Dell Hot Swap 2.5" drive in place of 3.5"
@pmoncho said in Dell Hot Swap 2.5" drive in place of 3.5":
Received confirmation from Dell support rep that they only stock 2.5" drives in this size, there are no reported issues with this type of replacement and all should be well.
Well, we are going to find out later tonight when users log out.
We have used 2.5" from dell to replace a 3.5" in a failed raid many times with no issues. Like @JaredBusch said, though, double check that backup first, even though the drive came early, it's premature to drop it in.....

@scottalanmiller How is using the MCT different from just doing the upgrade from within Windows 7 for example?
Different in the effort involved I'm not saying that there aren't other legit upgrade methods, just that the MCT one is the most universal that I've found. If you can kick it off completely from Windows 7 without needing the MCT, that's great. But when I've tried that, it always fails (but tries.)
We ALWAYS ran the MCT download from a network share. The key for us to have a successful upgrade was to NOT ALLOW "check for updates" during the upgrade It's a checkbox during the initial screens. Make sure you are compliant with licensing before upgrading

RE: Exchange 2016 - NDR
In your scenario, SPF is your friend in most cases. Normally, people will tell you SPF is a waste of your time. I'm not going to argue all the various ways to use SPF and how they may or may not help.
I will say that in your case, you do want the people who need to know; to get an NDR.
So, adopt this policy: Do not send NDR if SPF check fails.
The reason this is good in your case is that if SPF passes, you (likely) have a valid sender that should get the NDR. If it fails, you will more often than not, have a sender that is not real. Not always, but way more often then never. And if your choices are to NDR or not to NDR, I would go for the unspoken third option, NDR when it will most often be helpful and not cause too much backscatter.
There are examples where even this is not the golden egg, but it is sure better than skipping your customers, vendors, friends, family, etc when they do have a valid SPF and you can demonstrate there is a high probability the message is not spam.

Yealink Feature needed. Not sure what to call it.
When I need to speak with someone who is currently on a call, I would like to get an audible signal on my phone when they hang up the call. I suspect this is attached to BLF, and I know Yealink has "Audio Alert for BLF Pickup", but I need an audio alert for blf hang up, and I would like it to be only after I select their blf button.
Is this going to be a Busy/Ringback event? or a Transfer event? or something else.
I'm happy to search for it, I just don't know what to call it.

Yep. Spinners only. I've been successful 3 out of 12 times
Thought I was the only one that ever used that trick.
I've a had similar success rate. Just make sure when you power it up, you get what you need, because it may not happen a 2nd time!

@scottalanmiller I just had a phone conversation with Craig at Backup Assist (they are members of this forum I believe). They are in the process of rolling out a product that may fit our needs. He's going to do some research and schedule a call. I will keep you in the loop.
Just curious, what is unique about your needs that their Multisite Manager didn't address?
I'm not sure. When Craig called me and asked about what I was looking for, he mentioned that they are coming out with a new product in the very near future that may work the best. I haven't explored any further than that at this point.
Based on our conversation here, this may be all you need.

Need to txt appt reminders from PC. What app/services have you used?
What services/app have you used, and did you like it?
I have a customer who needs this ability because their practice management software cannot do it. So they are going to dedicate a person to sending txt appt reminders every day.
I would prefer to provide them with a full computer interface, web gui is okay, (not a smartphone app) and would also like them to be able to get responses.
I am also open to polite discussion on what may be better solutions and approaches to this as I have not really explored it enough to have considered all the things that would help arrive to the best conclusion.
Thanks.

RE: Taking over IT for a small business
@Dashrender I left this out earlier for fear he would say I was conflating....
Here's our push for power-on for dell PCs, we push it with GPO, or ScreenConnect, or drop it in the startup folder with a script that uses an admin$ share. Most bios mfrs have a utility for editing bios remotely.
It sets it up the way we want, and if someone changes it, it auto re-applies at the next boot.

Not an answer but a vaguely described possible point in direction...
On ML, someone here posted (Sometime in the last year I believe) about having to allow a process through the Windows Firewall for SQL and that sped everything up. I believe it was "Transaction Coordinator" or something like that.netsh advfirewall firewall set rule name="Distributed Transaction Coordinator (TCP-Out)" new enable=yes profile="domain"

Anyone heard of anything like this before?
If you call me tomorrow, I'd be happy to let you set me up as a patient, and I'll even allow you to make a small charge to my CC. Then when I get a call, I'll lead them on and take whatever bait they offer and hopefully get enough info for you to do some more investigation.

RE: Mail Server with app like google for testing
Are you trying to "de-google" your life?
I would urge you to look at NextCloud for all the apps, collaboration, calendaring, and storage. And pair it with an e-mail server of your choice.
Enjoy!
