Working today (Day after holiday here in the U.S), tackling some network updates and InTune while I have the chance.

Sorry to hear - maybe they will comp you the day to take when you can sit and relax... a often rare thing to do in IT.

We are soon off to the in-laws for the afternoon. not sure I want to get into anything just yet with the limited time but need to research building a VHF gateway (Ham Radio) as there is a little more interest here now... Something I have looked at doing almost a decade ago. Technology has changed a bit but the premise is still the same

While some things are still in flux - it may have a good out come. I have spoken to all parties and it is currently implied that I will get the time. It of course remains to be seen - but am hopeful.

I've communicated with the new HR office and set my start date.

Interesting - For whatever reason, AT&T has issues with delivery of Voicemail an Voicemail notification - but whatever.

I got a voice mail (no call logged in recent) from the company saying good to go. with this information - I can feel more at ease in that I will get my PTO... That's a relief considering the stress I carried for three days, that and not being able to discuss this with those involved. wolf!

that voicemail will be saved for reference should something be applied differently.

Too many to quote using the phone,.. thanks.

so- now it is a bit bitter sweet as I may very well lose all of my accrued PTO,..94 hours.

      Will have to see

Dunno about your state, but every state I have dealt with, accrued means it is earned and is 100% required to be paid out.

For those in Ohio, the employer must have a written policy stating under what conditions accrued PTO will not be paid.

And there’s the ‘rub’ of course.

While I live and work in Kentucky, the company that pays me is in Ohio…. And yes- it’s in the Employee handbook. So it’s very very likely that I’ll get screwed out of it.

Forgot to mention, I don't see why a company believes in not paying out PTO hours for mainly, good, stable employees who put in their 2 week notice?

The now ex-employee will blab to the rest which may foster a issue amongst the current staff as the rumor runs amuck within the company.

If an employee has a good hunch they will not be paid, they might as well go on vacation for two weeks, come back for a day and then walk out a day before starting their new job. --- Seen this happen in the last few years.

Keep in mind, I"m a contractor. and yea,.. it's in the handbook.. it's not paid out. take it or lose it.

The company I work FOR does carry over. and the COO is a little confused why I wasn't hired,.. LAST YEAR,.. but she has little room to do anything...

In the back of my mind,.. the former Director is getting kick backs from all the money spent. the organization has spent over $1.1M on all services and products in the last 18months. And this is a clinic of less than 300 people.

since the contractor isn't going to pay it out - can't the clinic just give it to you in a bank?

How would that work? The position I accepted is not with the clinic.

And the COO hasn't stepped in to do something about it? How is a former junior manager (compared to the COO) able to do that but the COO unable to hire someone?

      How are companies this bad?

From the meeting we had with the COO and the CEO made it seem that the Director washed a lot of information both directions. To the C-suite and from them... so seems they didn't know about a number of things.

Even though I am only partly to blame here.

      • Because I get it done, it’s given to me
      • because I close the most tickets, it’s given to me
      • because it had to be done and there isn’t anyone else here to do it, it’s given to me
      • because Jake hole didn’t finish it, I have to.
      • because “I trust you to get it done”,…
      • because he’s a lazy f*
        …
      • because this is how’s it’s been.

That's called "leverage". Every response should be "and why are you paying them to do that rather than the person who is actually doing it?" and "why do you keep paying people you don't trust?" and "I have a hard time believing your faith in me as you say that when I get more work, but say the opposite in my paycheck. Your actions say you don't actually have faith in me."

It is partly the "old staff" mentality.. The one who I have the most issue with has been there almost five years - and is a full employee - I'm 'just a contractor'.

So, as the most senior (in time only) he gets to skate by on things. Partly because of the previous IT staff and Director. The Director didn't do anything as he did everything asked of him - and nothing more. He's an 'IT Specialist" but classifies himself as a "Security Specialist" for the organization. We are all IT Specialists.. oh well...

It's a lame dynamic... he can do good work, but that's when you can get him to work. With the Directory having been a 'filter' on some things... he could likely find himself in a sour spot before long - and that'll be it. But I am not staying.

Got my start date pushed off,.. so maybe I don't have to lose all my time. But that edges into the time we go to Virginia to visit family. And it'll be my granddaughters first Christmas... so I don't want to skip that...
