      @scottalanmiller

      I actually bought most of my software. I was into the multi-media and used a lot of Scala and my non-linear Video Toaster in my 2000. Also big into hanging out on BBSes back then too...can't remember the terminal program of choice but remembered it worked rather well. Ah., the days to choose X-Modem, Z-Modem or Y-Modem downloads! 🙂

      Yes...but I remember talking people into an Amiga 500 and then they would call back months later saying "where do I get programs" for this thing? It for sure was a cult machine.

      When was that? Even as late as 1994 finding Amiga stuff was simple.

      Oh, 90ish...back when Wards, Sears and a few others had some Amiga 500's for sale. Most people, even then, were all about IBM Compatible please...though few, we were proud owners...I've got many a story about meeting people to "trade games"...LOL.

    • RE: Surface Pro 3 Preorder - Anyone Do It?

      @david.wiese Well, it isn't a secret since many people are a part of if, but I am a Amazon Vine reviewer. I started writing reviews on my own back in the late 90's and about 2010, they asked me if I wanted to be a part of the program where they send me items to review and keep. Been a member since. Never read the fine print as to the "catch"...I do know we are not to resell or gift the reviews.

      Some months, it is teabags...sometimes digital Camcorders, to dog food...they generally target to my likes...I really didn't need another gadget with the SP3 (work purchased) coming but couldn't pass up a $1,699 laptop...may not play many games on it but it seems like a powerhouse for just about any need.

      My SP3 arrives today but not after getting notice of my review copy (to keep) of a Core i7 Alienware gaming laptop arriving in a few days...didn't I say I was trying to degadget?

      Here's a walkthrough of the game, even showing the easter eggs of the "Yar" and Indiana Jones:

      @Carnival-Boy

      For sure it wasn't a great game and earns its "worst game" label with some merit. Basically, you had to move ET around and watch the symbols at the top of the page. If it was a question mark, you press the button to raise your ET Neck and it will light up where a piece of the "phone" is. You need to collect 3 pieces of the phone. Then look for the symbol to "call home" to start a 60 second countdown. Then head to the woods and look for the "landing" symbol and wait there for the ship in hopes the doctor will not take you away. Oh yeah, you have to battle an FBI agent...if he "touches" you, you lose a piece of your phone and need to look for it again,. If the doctor grabs you, he takes you to a screen that has "Washington" and oddly enough, Elliot's house. You can elect Reese's Pieces for either points at the end of the game (which you have to call Elliot to come get) or use them as energy. Other symbols are arrows which can transport you to another screen or "Send back to Washington" to send doctor or FBI agent back.

      I for one actually liked the game once I figured it out. I play it on an emulator once and a while. I've even discovered the Easter Egg where Indiana Jones will appear. I do feel for the programmer on this game though. He only had 6 weeks. 6 weeks to make a game based upon the most popular movie ever at the time.

    • RE: Another GOG Sale

      Thanks. I've pretty much sucked GOG dry as for as getting the games that were nostalgic to me. Between GOG, C64 Forever, Amiga Forever and my Atarti, Colecovision, and Intellivision emulators, pretty much set with my nostalgic games.
      Though I do have a wishlist for GOG:

      Star Trek Games, namely 25th Anniversary, Judgment Rites, Elite Force. Star Trek games were mostly disappointments but there were a few gems in there. I am still bummed Secret of Vulcan Fury was canned.

      Grim Fandango is being rereleased by Sony...fingers crossed on a Windows version. 🙂

      My boss is interested in one.. I might be running to Best Buy on Launch day.

      Anyone know.. does it come with Windows 8.1 Pro?

      Yes...8.1 Pro...I imagine it would have "Update 1" as well. I've had the Pro and Pro 2 but this one really seems like the "it" device for the Surface Line...

      I remember Space Fury being fun but kind of one dimensional once you got all of your "shells". Ah, how can I forget WarGames...that was such fun! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WarGames_(game)

    • Surface Pro 3 Preorder - Anyone Do It?

      Did anyone pre-order a Surface Pro 3? I was one of the original adopters with the Surface RT and I remember getting my in my hands on launch day. So, did the same with the SP3 but it is two days away from launch day and no ship notice. Guessing Microsoft Store is not getting these into our hands on launch day. Wonder what the benefit of pre-ordering is now? I bet I could walk into Best Buy on Friday and come out with one instead of waiting "5-7" days from the 20th as the robotic Microsoft Store online customer service likes to state.
