    • RE: Experience with O365 for Nonprofits?

There is no such thing as a non profit plan. You get the exact same plans as businesses, you just get a different pricing rate after you prove eligibility.

So, you can Get E1 free of charge.
E3 is maybe $2 a month per user.

There are no differences in features, you get the exact same thing.

    • RE: MSP Removes Good Hyper-V to Install Older, Bad Setup

My support margins for support on prem versus cloud, is triple. Yes, triple the income for persuading a client to use on prem solutions.

You get to maintain all the software
You get to maintain the physical stuff when it breaks
      You get to migrate/upgrade/replace

So many ways of making money whilst screwing the client.

Yes, someone has convinced them on prem is better and is laughing all the way to the bank.

Titles in IT are generally made up.

They mean different things to different companies.

Pentest. You get our company name, that is all. Can you get in? Could you almost get in? What could/did you change? etc.

      Challenge accepted.

Lol, but at what cost £££ 😛

The fastest way to get the best pentest in the world, put out a bounty. Same way the big boys do it. If you get every type of hacker trying to crack your network for a prize, you can bet you'll find out if its secure.

This is a big problem with pen tests with many companies, how imaginative and motivated is the attacker?

    • RE: InfoWorld: Clients or Grifters

The gist of the article though is that as soon as you impose tighter controls/credit terms the scammer gets flustered and runs away.

I know a few companies who run on a credit of trust, if you are brand new, you get no credit, so you start with the most restrictive terms.

If you are a known, reliable client, you get the more lenient credit terms.

The scammers balk at the terms, the cheapskates who will nickel and dime you to death decide to leave early and the genuine stay behind to do business with you.

    • Aetherstore, looks amazing, what about...

      https://www.aetherstore.com/

It looks really amazing, What about the below.

      - "Resource Efficient"
Can you define schedule windows when data can be synchronised back and forth? I.e over-night when no one is working so the internal network is not impacted, on a 10/100 network file synching out say, 120GB of data would be a pain during office hours for end users.

      - AetherStore uses AES-256 encryption to protect data both at rest and in transit.
Practically, how do the clients/servers trust each other? is it with a local self signed cert?

      - AetherStore automatically distributes and maintains four replicas of your data at all times, so data is available even when machines leave and re-join the network.
I'm assuming that one device is my AetherStore controller, let's assume that controller dies, how do I get control of the AetherStore network from a different device.

      - Only the Administrator has access to the mounted AetherStore drive.
How is this defined, what if there is pot of data which is not production critical but useful to make an attempt to back up, i.e a photo/video library in a non-profit, which can still be read only accessible to the staff team, or a 7+ year archive which users can have read only access into, historical finance data for example?

Last and most importantly, are we going to see this product available in 2015?

What will a future employer think if they see you trash talking the current employer?

I as Breffni Potter have a user cal.

That enables me to use my desktop/laptop/IPhone/Printer/VOIP Phone/Network controllable LED light.

If anyone else uses my devices for work, then my user cal is void and we now need 2x user cals.

@Breffni-Potter They will be at SpiceWorld London, so you can get a more thorough demo there if you're interested.

The problem is, product demos are always biased. 🙂 They are there to show off their product and the demo I saw last night was good enough, I don't need someone to explain how it works when I can trial it.

The biggest thing is, are people using it, do they like it or hate it, if they hate it, then no product demo will ever fix that, if they like it, then it just confirms what I know.

      @guyinpv

My business pitch was torn to shreds here prior to launch.

I can say it was painful, it was hurtful and it was bloody annoying to have all these internet forum warriors saying all this stuff.

After the initial feelings though, I went back and re-read, I considered, I re-evaluated and I can say that my presentation is now much much closer to what I WANTED to offer in the first place.

    • How do you feel when a recommendation you give winds up bad?

CloudatCost - There are dozens of posts in this community alone about their issues, yet in the early days they were recommended as amazing, great product, must buy.

As IT pros, we often give opinions on our experiences with products/services/solutions, in some cases with a "Buy this, it's amazing"

What do you do when that recommendation was a disaster? Do you reach out and say "Well, that was a bad call, sorry I recommended that to you"
