      @GlennBarley said:

@RojoLoco Unfortunately not, since we are a channel exclusive provider

In that case we'd just need to know what providers to reach out to to get pricing from - but the general feeling around here is - if the pricing isn't clearly stated on the website - at least for a starting price, we probably won't even bother.

    • RE: Split Hotel Room for MangoCon '16?

The stumble to your room right upstairs is worth a lot to me.

I discovered at the first big convention (San Diego Comic Con - the biggest con of it's type in the world). Stay on site at nearly any cost.

That time I was staying about 3 miles away, 15 min normally, but in traffic more like 40. Paid for parking, plus no access to room during the day, etc - yeah I still spent less money on the far away room and rental car, but time lost at the event and not being able to 'party' made it kinda suck!

    • RE: Is There No Base of IT Knowledge?

I think @Carnival-Boy hit the nail on the head. It's the difference between someone looking to get paid and someone who enjoys the subject as much personally as professionally.

What used to surprise me was that in a SMB, the CFO (or financial person whatever their title) was usually the person responsible for IT duties. These people usually could care less about IT in general, but they were told it was their responsibility, so they did it. I'm guessing plenty of them found they could make more money doing IT stuff than financial stuff and made a switch, though clearly lacking in any type of formal or even semi formal education.

As has been talked about before on these boards, and mainly by @scottalanmiller, formalized education around IT isn't old like several other degree programs (lawyers, doctors, nurses, CPAs, etc), and in general is considered useless.

This is further confused by the fact that there's a divide in what is IT i.e. programmers/developers vs platform/administration. @scottalanmiller considers them two completely separate fields, but the layperson does not, they simply see that both sets of people spend nearly their entire day in front of a computer.

Right, Dashrender, they do it so they dont have to pay for their own USAF IT people, or pay USAF IT people a wage worth working for. But at the same time, they pay so much money to these contractors are they actually saving money? Im not so sure, esp with the intangible costs like this situation right here.

No they are not, they can't be!

My brother made 20K in the military, got out became a private contractor doing the same job fro $120K.. WTF? Why aren't they just keeping military people and paying them say $60K or $80K.. whatever.

Biggest question currently on my mind, how will you prevent outages like the one last week? I definitely can't host my phone system in your DC with the possibility of situations like that.

    • RE: TAA anyone? Tabaholics Anonymous.

How does limiting browser tabs reduce bandwidth usage?

Problem = people wasting time on non work related websites.
Solution = HR writes people up/fires them to reduce abusers.

Bad IT solution = traffic shaping to reduce bandwidth used by offending websites.
User work around = use proxy website or VPN to bypass firewall policy.

Huge thanks to the vendors for their support of MangoCon year 1.

The give aways were great, but, as Danielle said, the Hololens stole the show..

Thanks to NTG or Danielle for the not-lego minion set and the Amazon gift card.

This is declared as something built by law enforcement. We can be sure they are wording thing in their best interest.

For example all traffic flowing to them could run through spactrum, therefore being recorded, yet the solution itself is not involved.

    • RE: Massive Storage Need for Video Project

AJ, there is a difference between morally grey and legal - While sure, most people would probably do exactly what you are saying - but they wouldn't be crazy enough to go and post about it on public board.

This would be like saying - hey I have this Windows Server license that I completely know I can't legally assign to a cloud hosted service, but hey it's not hurting anyone, and as long as I remove it before I get caught who cares - oh wait... you already said that.

      It's about having morals.
