RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter The catch is it can only work with 1 SSD, has to be a Samsung, and can't be part of a RAID. But yes, it's just amazing. It makes M2 and PCIE SSDs look slow as dickles.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Yeah, if you're using almost all of your RAM it's probably not a good idea. Hence why my last few systems have been 32GB. It's that much faster.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@creayt But the SSD is so high performance that the buffer is flushed very quickly still, just not as quickly as writing to RAM, so if power loss happened you'd be looking at a max of like 5 seconds of work lost in most scenarios.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter It's just using system RAM as a buffer and writing ( and then intelligently reading until the buffer is purged ) everything from it, like a middleman between Windows and the actual SSD.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Still won't compete sadly. I'm getting over 5GB/s read/write on mine, and it's only a 256GB.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter What data do you think you'd lose? The last 3 seconds of work?
-
RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Are you using rapid mode w/ that Samsung SSD? If not you may up your scores quite a bit w/ it on.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Now I know everything about your computer. Including that you have not OC'd it.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Hahahahah so true. I actually have 10 going on Boot Camp but none of my files and IIS definitions and etc. So so true.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Ah ok. I only have a latest greatest MacBook Pro lying around at the moment so I can't run the benchmark until tonight because obviously one cannot get work done on a mac.
-
RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter Are you using the same box you're running the benchmarks on? If so that may be lowering your score.
-
RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter
So the HP is about 36% faster. Not too shabbo. This makes me want to compare our scores on the "Work" benchmark to see if that narrows the gap a bit.

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter
Me too! What hardware are you on?

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
I should mention, they sold me a computer that was built for warranty-compatible overclocking and that had a water cooler pre-installed. Which let me get the 5820K to a stable 4.5 ghz w/ a few clicks. That combined w/ the 980TI are what make her such a shocking value ( IMH admittedly noob-to-OC O ).

RE: My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
@Breffni-Potter It has a tonnnn of different benchmarks in the suite, make sure you do the same one ( upper left of the pic ) if you're going to compare.

My new HP desktop is Da Real MVP
Hopefully you didn't click on this post because it's the gratuitous championing of Hewlett Packard hardware prices.
They sold me a computer for about $1800 ( and even that's only because I opted for 32 GB of DDR4, would've been a few hundo cheaper ) that out scores 99% of all other fools. This makes me feel warm and cozy inside. The end.

RE: Windows 10 Lock Screen Ads
I'm not sure I get the discontent. Turn the feature off if you don't like it?
I'm not sure why but I haven't seen an ad yet and I use the lock screen day in and day out. It's always arbitrary pictures.

RE: Super important power supply question
To anyone who's curious, in practice my impression is that it makes a HUGE difference. Processor performance on the 980 box is much MUCH better than on the power-strained TI box, which I'm sending back. When overclocked to the same speed, the TI box with identical settings hovers down below 2 Ghz most of the time while the 980 box is up above 4 most of the time w/ load. The disk performance ( same exact drive, just moved ) w/ rapid mode, which is very proc dependent is also much better on the 980 box, breaking 5 GB/s read/write. So, yeah, question answered. The 980 box is also quieter, which I adore. Good thing I don't play many games and the card difference isn't a huge deal, or at least I keep telling myself that.

RE: Super important power supply question
@Dashrender Ah, ok ( yep, the 980 and then the other is the 980 TI ), so you're saying that with overclocking even the lesser-powerful system risks not having enough power. Gotcha, thx.
