@NerdyDad said in WiFi range extender requires wifi...:

Cabling: One aspect of home networking that is far too often overlooking is implementing a quality cabling plant inside the home. This requires far more effort than other home networking projects and falls more into the electrician space rather than the IT professional space but is also one of the most important pieces from the home owner perspective and end user perspective rather than the IT pro perspective. A good, well installed cabling plant will make a home more attractive to buyers and make the value a powerful home network even better.

I should add I'm running on a server in vultr so there is a cost, but better than running my own server.

There is a cost to using Spiceworks (period) for MSP usage. It's not designed for it, so you have to waste tons of extra time making up for the lack of proper client tracking features, billing and reporting integrations and general functions that a PSA like Autotask or connectwise has.

@BBigford If we are talking about Office 365 Journaling is outdated while Litigation Hold and Compliance is the way to go. YOu can also still have a Mailbox Archive for each mailbox, but litigation hold will make it that any changes are not deleted from the mailbox.

Yes, annual reviews just take time and effort. I used to them as a manager and will take 2 or 3 hours for a group of 6 evaluating their goals, progression etc.

At work: every Friday for Workstations, if it is needed, and Every Sunday for Servers if it is needed.
Home: Autoreboot after they are installed on my laptop, cause I dont care, most my crap is web based. Home Lab: Every Sunday at 11AM.
My 1 rule, don't suck at patching.

What does "if it is needed" mean?

When patches are released, because you very well know, patching is the last thing customers think about. Although this is one thing I would like to audit as one of my other projects. New guy, fresh set of eyes.

Why not call "updating for updating's sake" "needed" and then update every week 🙂

There is no functionality difference, at the backup level, in the editions of the new agent.

We took them on as a client. So whoever setup their stuff in the beginning looked like they were just lazy and careless.

Might have been a gov't organization at some point? Some places in my town were run sort of like that when they were connected up with the state.

Yes the at sign signifies a group of packages rather than a single one.

So what would happen if you didn't use @ ? Would only part of the package be installed and the environment unusable?

You'd fail as there is no package by the name that you are specifying.

It hadn't failed for me though, it only listed about 12 things at around 35MB. When I added the @, it jumped up to about 180MB. I didn't run it though as I think I had in the past and it didn't include everything needed.

We use HAProxy as our load balancer for Horizon View. Works amazingly well and is very light weight.

We use Skype for Business as our primary means of communication within the company, and HipChat for inter-department communications for all things IT. We are going to be canning HipChat here in a couple of weeks when we move to Microsoft Teams

HipChat is buggy and I don't recommend it to anyone; horrible unintuitive user experience. I'm not a Skype fan either, but that decision is outside of our sphere of influence so we have to deal with it. I'm hoping Microsoft Teams offers at least the same functionality as HipChat without the bugs. If that happens I'll be happy enough.

Same. We have on premise skype for business. I never had a big problem with it, but it never wowed me with anything.

It is nice how their status shows up in outlook though.

Are you using cached mode in Outlook? I turned that off back in 2007 and have kept it off ever since. Because our users access 12 calendars of other users daily, and the non owned calendars are only updated when you open the calendar, this resulted in lag when a user would open those calendars, sometimes making someone think there was nothing slotted, and it would populate and now be double booked.
