That's interesting. More and more things are moving to a model like that, the zero knowledge thing, but people are used to companies have that knowledge and it will cause a lot of problems.

1Password does the same thing actually, if you forget the master password, its gone. Only thing is when you introduce dropbox for password sync, it defeats the purpose.

I've never looked at 1Password, how does dropbox sync defeat the purpose?

LastPass works similar in that the LP doesn't have the ability to reset your password. One thing they do setup is a one time password in the first PC you install LP on. Using that computer you could then unlock your account and reset your password, one time. You can enable this one time password on each computer you install LP on if you want more recovery options.

Additionally, you can create a OneTime Password list that you could store securely and use to regain access if you forgot your password.

Nothing. Only support. There is only one product. 100% open source, that was one of the reasons that they split from ownCloud.

      So it's like RHEL 🙂

Especially on a small scale, that's pretty cool.

Yes, for a "farm" it is totally useless. But for a home garden this is so perfect. It's the right size for a home garden and it handles mixed plants as easily as doing all the same one so perfect for the variety that single families need. An amazing opportunity around growing your own food. It would work really well for people who want fresh veggies for their own consumption. It's an automated system that matches how they farm in Romania, everyone with a tiny plot of their own.

$3k is such a steep hurdle to care for such a small garden. You would almost never recoup your food cost. I'd like to see something like this for about a third of the price. I understand that probably isn't feasible right now in terms of cost and technology, but it would be hard to see any monetary gain at $3k.

Yeah. Like I said before, we'll see this sort of system put on a truck or tractor arrangement of some sort. Add on the auto driving things they have on the newest tractors, and you've got an automated system that can tend to hundreds/thousands of acres without the current need for keeping entire fields being the same crop. Don't even need a driver, just a manager/mechanic.

You would need a separate mechanism for harvesting large quantities, though.

Not all that difficult to do. Most types of crops have some sort of automated harvesting mechanism available (weather it's currently in use over super cheap human labor or not.)

We're talking about mixed stuff, not a field of one plant type.

I realize that 😉 A harvesting bot isn't that difficult to do compared to a planting/watering bot.

True, but I highly doubt it could be nearly efficient enough for large-scale farming. A bot that can adapt to harvesting multiple crops and still keep up with a combine taking down a single crop? I don't see that as feasible.

For the insane scale farms generally operating today, sure. For the small (400-800 acres of crops) farms it'd be ideal.

I still don't think the numbers would come even close, but it's all hypothetical anyway. 🙂 We'll have to find out the long way.

I agree. It would take a long time to recoup the initial investment. Labor and machines like tractors are much more affordable for small farms.

If you are a burgaler looking to steal something, of course you are going to make that statement that you cannot break into a particular area. People will move their valuables into that area and whoops, the thieves have them.

Government sponsored, highly motivated, extremely dangerous combined with serious levels of funding burglars.

But it's where the government moves its stuff. It's not what they tell the public, it's what they do to protect themselves from the public.

@Dashrender said in SQL mirroring advise:

Are the two SQL servers sitting side by side? If not, shared storage and low latency for it's use would be super expensive.

Though I do wonder how their DR plan works if there isn't a cluster for the DB, what purpose does the second server serve? Warm spare?

Yes the servers are side by side, basically just sits there, and when a new site is created on SP side, run the script which mirrors the new DB created on server 1 to server 2. Eventually they were planning to introduce the witness server once our testing is complete and then enable auto failover. The downside here is that someone need to manually run the script for db mirroring of new databases

So the big thing here is that the databases are not mirrored, just the framework (schema) is at creation time. Very different from mirroring or clustering at that aspect level.

Yes, we've told them this won't work and asked them to look at a clustered setup. Since the licenses are already in place and is SQL standard no option for Always-On. I want to know what would be the drawbacks for the clustered setup, as for sure there are some more advantages on Always-ON compared to the clustered setup.

Won't work... for what? What's the end goal?

Won't work: Current stage its 2 separate DB servers and mirroring needs to be done by executing a script whenever there is a new db is created by SP.

End Goal: A fully automated failover setup giving high availability for the SharePoint solution

What they are doing is unrelated to their end goal. How does mirroring database creation help with failover. There isn't even a first step in preparing for a failover here. What is going on is totally something different.

Exactly what i was asking earlier.

I recently found myself in a situation where a lifestyle change was necessary and also was looking for a fitness tracker. I narrowed mine down to the Vivosmart and the Samsung Gear Fit2. It was close and I really liked the Garmin's feature set but ended up going with the Gear Fit2 simply because the Samsung Note 7 promo made them available l on the cheap on Craigslist. I love mine and I'm sure you will love yours as well.

You are planning to travel every year to new destinations and you have not any Camera except Mobile camera, this is very shocking for me. You have to buy any Point and shoot camera.

For deciding which point and shoot camera is good for you, I would like to share one article with you. Here is article link http://www.gadgetreview.com/best-point-and-shoot-digital-camera Using this review article you can easily decide which point and shoot camera is the best for your use.

According to me you should not buy drone because of Drone is very expensive and most of the countries are not allowing you to to use drone as you already said.

One option is there, when you need drone, you can hire it on rent. This is the best option for you.

Thanks for sharing the link. I am about to start travelling to different destinations from this year, so till that time the phone camera was sufficient, and i already got the camera, Canon SX60.

@scottalanmiller said in An interesting post about a security auditor's requirements!:

That's not a real auditor, that's a hacker posing as an auditor. If that auditor didn't have a signed, bonded affidavit from the CEO saying that he could social engineer the IT department to test their resolve then they should immediately have called the FBI, assuming that this is the US. That the person claims to be an auditor doesn't make him one, that he keeps badgering the IT guy makes what might be a mistake into clear social engineering. Charges should have been filed against them. Had they done that to a public company, charges would like have been brought under any number of federal statutes including SEC regulations.

      from the linked article:

My "legal guy" has suggested revealing the company would probably cause more problems than needed. I can say though, this is not a major provider, they have less 100 clients using this service. We originally started using them when the site was tiny and running on a little VPS, and we didn't want to go through all the effort of getting PCI (We used to redirect to their frontend, like PayPal Standard). But when we moved to directly processing cards (including getting PCI, and common sense), the devs decided to keep using the same company just a different API. The company is based in the Birmingham, UK area so I'd highly doubt anyone here will be affected.

      Yeah, legal seemed to agree.
