@fuznutz04 I was just telling Scott i love Snom

Yeah, the setup is so simple on the PA-1. There are like 4 settings to change to set it up for use with a paging horn. Not to mention it's a nice looking, sturdy device.

      Interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.

I didn't realize renting was an option. That is news to me.

Yeah, I haven't look into that either. Looks like if you order today, you have to have it back to Amazon by Dec 18.

For a reference book, I wouldn't ever see myself renting.

    • Voice to Text transcription

Does anyone do voicemail transcription with FreePBX? I have a client who is looking to transcribe their voicemail to text. I know there are some solutions out there, but have no experience with any of them. Any recommendations or comments on this?

Just installed a Snom PA-1 and paging horn in a garage. That thing is LOUD.

What is the point of a PA horn in the garage?

It is a garage/workshop area that is very loud with machinery. They couldn't hear the phone ringing. Now they can.

@wrx7m I think if the book can be considered a "text book", it has the rental option on Amazon.

These guys are really on top of releases. Their release cycle and feature improvements have been impressive the past few months.

Removing old files from Ubuntu because I'm out of space, and even the apt-get autoclean and apt-get autoremove will not work due to an out of space error.

Where was that option when I was in school... I spent so much on book. 😕

    • RE: Which drill set to acquire

@coliver Right. I bought a Dewalt set, over 12 years ago when they still used NiCAD batteries. Finally decided to buy into the the Ridgid brand. There are different models of each drill, that on the surface, look very similar, but there is a big cost difference. Go for the middle of the road stuff that has better internal parts, LED lights, and battery level indicators. Makes a big difference IMHO.

@scottalanmiller Yeah, I did that too, but the payback was so small compared to the cost of the books. College textbooks are such a scam.

    • FreePBX, Qualify time, and "Unreachable" extensions

I have a client with a cloud hosted PBX (FreePBX). There are about 75 extensions at the client. This morning, phones are not ringing properly and going strait to VM when dialing an extension from and IVR. Looking at the peer list and console, it is because the extensions are unregistering. One phone was fixed by rebooting it.

What has changed since yesterday? Well, the client is busy today and lots of traffic going on on the network. Could it be that their router/firewall simply cant handle all the concurrent SIP registrations? What can be done to help the problem? Changing the qualify time on extensions to something less? Right now the qualify time is at 60.

@scottalanmiller Well now I just feel embarrassed. Yesterday, I was trying this inside a windows VM, and using a mac keyboard. I couldn't get shift insert to work properly. Tried it this morning on my windows box, and of course, it worked.

Kids in bed. Cranking some music in my office, converting more DVDs to Plex server, and writing some scripts for backup.

And now, because of @scottalanmiller 's post above, downloading Korora, because why not?

The RAID array should appear as a single drive and nothing that XS does should make a rebuild of the array needed. If that is happening, there is a deeper problem.

It does. It shows as a single 6 TB "drive"

Should not need to rebuild, then. If the underlying array is corrupting, then the issue is at the controller or disk level.

XS is actually installed on this array. If the RAID controller was corrupting the array, wouldn't this hose the XS installation as well and not make it bootable?

They certainly have a long roll out process for these things.

I've been dabbling this week with Teams and Planner. Neither of which is really ready for prime time.

We use Teams, but we are small, and it works well for us. Plus it's included in our $5/month subscription, so why not.

Planner on the other hand.... I want to like it, I really do. But you're right, its just missing too much and is not ready yet.

I really wish MS would stop releasing all of these different, almost useful products. Just because you release many products doesn't make the 365 subscription better, it just makes it more cluttered. </rant>
