Are they worth buying used? I've bought push mowers used all the time cause you can get them around $20. But riding lawn mowers don't really seem to be that much cheaper than the new ones and who knows how they've been treated.

That is pretty much what I noticed when I was last a home owner that cared about such things. That is also the reason I did not have one. I do not care about the yard to buy new or used for nearly new.

The only real advantage is if you have a huge amount of lawn. Then you aren't walking around all day.

Get an ATV with a tow behind mower. Then you can also use it for plowing and other, more fun, things.

I guess it depends on how long you are going to use it compared to the price difference... if you think you are going to get 10 years out of it, and you're only saving $100, why bother with used? but if you're saving many hundreds or even thousands off, that's another story.

That said, my friend bought an areins rider that he beats the shit out of. He mows about 2.5 acres of field grass, mini trees, cornstalks, etc (on an actual farm). Sure he's replaced all of the deck spindles, now the starter motor and the muffler (all himself) but the cost of buying something like a John deer would have been $5000, this was only $1300. He found a great source for third party parts that were super inexpensive and turned out to be way better than OEM parts. The spiindles for example are $125 OEM, the third party are $25.

Seriously though. How long does it take you to mow it now?
Would you like it to take less time?

Yeah if you know simple gas engine stuff, you can make those things last a long time with some simple maintenance.

I was gifted one for my .67 acres, but gave it up to a neighbor with a lawn service. 🙂

That should definitely last you a long time.

Does it have a cup holder? That seems to be key to optimize mowing.

Yes it does. I had a nice cold beer while I mowed with it. And this thing goes fast.

                                Beer. Fast, Blades.

                                What could go wrong?

LOL, I'd be doing the same thing!

One thing I hate doing is mowing the lawn. My wife on the other hand loves it.

I grew up mowing the lawn on the farm and at my grandmother's place down the road. About eleven acres of lawn between the two. As an adult, I don't let there be any situation where I have to mow the lawn.

My dad, on the other hand, bought an $11K lawn mower and does it as his relaxation.
