Has anyone else had this issue were occasionally a task will get hung on your XO Server that causes XO to stop responding?

Haven't seen that one yet. So the web GUI is unresponsive?

          Yep.

Doesn't even load the page. I have to sign in and kill the process or reboot if I want it to run without an open terminal.

Looks like errors spewing to the console.

It was on the terminal within XC when I opened it this morning.

I wasn't even signed into the VM.

Why don't you post this on the XO forums? I would assume that more people there would be likely to have seen the issue.

Cross post a link here if you want (please do). But if you really want answers to a specific product, you should use that products communication channels.

I have to say, I'm extremely concerned about the amount of issues Dustin posts that he has with XenServer and XO. Nary a day goes by that a new thread with some new seeming random thing isn't working.

Is this solution really that unstable?

On the flip side, I rarely see posts from ESXi or Hyper-V users (here on ML) posting about issues they are having.

Well for one thing, he's not having issues with XenServer, which is what ESXi and Hyper-V are comparable to. This is an interface and backup solution and third party toolset, it is not the hypervisor. The stability of XO is not of major concern for XS users.

What XO stability issues have you seen from him? He's got a blocking issue here, we don't know yet that it is XO.

I got two in my email from SW people having Veeam issues (XO is more like Veeam than like VMware) while I was responding to this thread 🙂

I agree with this. Many of his threads revolve around a mistake that he makes in what the products are even supposed to do.

Good to know the issues aren't with the hypervisor, but instead with the interface and backup solution.

Perhaps stability was the wrong term. it just seems like he's constantly posting with different questions all revolving around this stuff.

Now that said, I have never used it. Perhaps it's just a learning thing - and he's posting about all of the learning things he's doing.

I think someone suggested that he keep a single long running thread for those types of things. By updating a single thread, there wouldn't be this shotgun affect that appears that XS or XO are having problems.

I don't mind the various threads, but I do mind the ones that seem to be How To's that end up in problems.

A "How To' should be a very detailed, no/minor changes required type of thing.

At bare minimum, the OP should be updated with the solution discovered in the thread.

I never could get the Unitrends Free product running correctly. I just didn't come here to complain about it. Here's the thread over on SW where multiple folks have had issues.

He's learning as he goes and really pushing the product, often trying to use new features as or before they even release. In many cases, if you read the thread, there is an issue with understanding what the features is for or how it is used. Like trying to use an NFS mount when he needs to be working with an SR.

So quite simply this a trial of what XO is, everything up till now, and on-going.

By posting the topics, hopefully someone will say at some point "I remember reading about this issue" and be able to find a solution. I am pushing the software to it's limits, yes there are some misunderstandings on my part, but that is how we learn.

If the community has a whole would prefer to not hear at all about XO I can very easily post on XO's forums.

As for this topic, there are several people here who are also using XO @danp is one of them that we've had conversations about different issues, so it was really a question of "hey danp have you had this happen?"

Anyways, take what you will from it.

The whole point of my post was simply to ask if XO (or XS) was really something normal IT admins should be using.

Knowing that you are pushing this product (XO) is definitely helpful toward that end.

I got the answer I was looking for, which is - yes it's definitely something IT admins should be using or at least learning.
