My client has Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 running on 2 servers. All of the VMs are running on one serer and Hyper-V replication keeps everything going to the 2nd server.

I have always used paid Veeam to get backups. I also have always kept up the subscription to get updates because the cost was not high compared to the downtime costs. But it looks like the price jumped $200 per license to me.

Not sure if I want to renew now at these prices. I have version 8 installed and I have downloaded my version 9 key. So I am good for quite a while software wise.

That is certainly a bit leap as a percentage of the price. But considering how many people choose their hypervisors based on the availability of Veeam (I get told this on SW constantly) it would make sense for Veeam to raise their prices. They seem to have an audience that is, on average, willing to pay rather an extremely high amount to work with them. Makes sense that they would leverage that.

So @JaredBusch are you looking for alternatives, and what products if any?

            Unitrends handles Hyper-V agentless.

And this client has less than 1TB in total storage so the free version is an option to my understanding.

Last that I knew, yes. Should be all set with the free "runs as a VM" version.

To be fair it looks like it was only a $150 price increase. I checked my original purchase. from a few years ago. That was $793 per 2 sockets.

Not SO bad. Still a hefty percentage.

That was originally a V7 license for $793.
I just found another invoice from a different client that purchased v8 @ $823

So Veeam is incrementally jacking up their price as v9 is $950.

Is that an upgrade cost or a new installation for these clients?

Those are new costs. That is all that is on their website.

I am still waiting on my vendor to get me the renewal pricing.

Why not? Do you not get a pay raise nearly yearly. Why should you get to get more money (mostly due to inflation), but not them?

it's true that many companies don't raise prices yearly, but plenty that do. Often those that don't, they don't because competition prevents them from doing so, while remaining competitive.

Two years ago you might have needed 2 servers to handle your workload, therefore you needed two Veeam licenses, but today you only need one server, and therefore for one Veeam license.
