      I'd like to hear some feedback on this. I don't have any XP machines to test it on, or I would do so.

        I have an XP unit on which to test, but not a replacement for it. Once I do, this will be useful. 🙂

            This could be interesting to look into. When they releases 7, they had a file transfer tool that worked pretty well but was kinda slow. I'd be curious to know how this stands up.

              It says it can transfer apps. Umm...how? I'd be curious to know exactly what they mean by that.

                Nifty, but it only works if your moving computers. VMware' Migrate can do in place XP --- 7 re-imaging, While migrating the profile. Can even pre-stage the Windows 7 files and do a fan out imaging system for ROBO so you can do hundreds of clients at the same time.

                    @ajstringham

                    I'm interested in trying this. I have 40 machines to replace - not that my users have anything I care about keeping.

                      Microsoft MDT process (via Easy Transfer) can do some of it. Being MS, the transferred bit are MS specific. Stephen Rose had a Springboard series of videos on it (TechEd, too?).

                      Hands down awesome way is OS X's Migration Assistant transferring Time Machine (or others HDD target) to a fresh machine. It gets all the programs, data, settings, passwords/credentials, and even one's messy desktop. Very slick. Few small caveats, such as Adobe programs need be re-activated (...by design Adobe being Adobe). MSFT really needs take a lesson from Apple's book on that bit.

                            This tool worked out pretty well. It was able to copy more information over than USMT
