According to a new report on desktop utilization in China, the Ubuntu-based Kylin Linux distribution alone accounts for 42% of the installations of desktops in the country. That is a huge number for a single distribution for sure and especially when we are considering that these are desktops, generally considered the last bastion of Windows and the one place Linux will struggle the most to break into.

I'd feel very compelled to double check anything with China's government pulling the strings. even from Ubuntu.

But it's great that Ubuntu was willing to develop an OS just for Chinese patrons.

Where did you hear that? It's made by the Chinese government.

Maybe I miss-read it, but searching Kylin Ubuntu appears to be made by the Ubuntu Org (with specific feature request and additions by the Chinese Government/Programmers)

Did you look on Wikipedia? It's been made by the Chinese government (through a university) since 2001 before Ubuntu was around. They moved to Ubuntu as a base but I've seen nothing being done by Ubuntu themselves listed. Maybe I've missed some details but as far as I have seen it's all inside of China.
