I had a great interview last week. One of the closing questions after we had gone over lots of technical stuff was "What would you do if you were sent a box of Lego's but it came with no instructions?"

I said build a house with it. They said that the other people that had asked said they'd get angry with Lego's for not including it. and one even said they would write the CEO of Lego's to tell them how horrible this was.

I like this question - really it's such a simple innocent question but, I think it can also tell a lot about a person.

      How would you respond?

I'd definitely build something. Just what the something is depends on the Lego pieces/bricks that I got sent. The pieces/bricks give me the inspiration of what to build. When it comes to Lego bricks, I can make something out of what seems to be a pile of random Lego pieces, much to the amazement of Mrs nadnerB and the delight mini-nadnerB.
        Ā
        Usually I build:

        • aeroplanes
        • cars
        • trucks
        • helicopters
        • spaceships
        • submarines
        • occasionally buildings

Just kidding, I always built the item on the box once and then reconstructed what I wanted after.

My wife always got Legos without instructions. It wasn't until she met me that she found out that the more expensive kits came with instructions.

They all come with instructions. The more expensive ones just tend to be a little better, as it's more necessary as they are more complicated.

Nope, they don't. I used to think that too. We've bought kits of the kids recently that don't come with any. It used to be more common, but they still exist.

EVERY LEGO set I ever bought came with instructions, and they ranged from everything from $5-10 sets to $50+ sets. Never seen one without one. Now, if you buy the big tubs of generic LEGOs, no instructions. However, every KIT has instructions that I've ever seen. Then again, it's been about a decade since I bought my last set...

Interesting question - I think I would probably write the company about getting the instructions, but at the same time assuming there are pictures on the box I'd try to figure it out myself.

Baring that, I'd just build whatever came to mind at the time.

I probably would answer the same way. I would try to emulate what is on the front of the box to the best of my ability. If there was no picture... I would probably try and build a space ship.

We always bought the ones without instructions growing up. It was the huge tub of random pieces.

And those don't have instructions. But all kits do.

Same. Lego's and k'nex were my favorite. Lincoln logs were to restrictive for me.
