I'm reviewing my security on my home PC as I do every once in a while.
So what's your preferred Firewall and A/V (incl Malware) products for Windows?

Currently I'm using Avast! Anti-Virus and Comodo Firewall (both free editions)

Also, what are your opinions on the in-built firewall in Windows. I know the early version in XP was not particularly good but 7 going up seems ok.

Currently at home I'm using a Linksys router for an external firewall and Webroot for AV.

I use Webroot only because of their journaling feature. If not for that I wouldn't pay for AV, I'd just use the built in AV that comes with Windows 8(.1).
The same goes for a software firewall. I only use the built into Windows one. Though I always suggest a hardware NAT/router/firewall device, even a cheap one whenever possible. You should disable UPNP though so junk on a computer inside your network can't open ports on the hardware device. Oh and change the default password on it too.

I would never use any third party firewall OS firewall only. No one knows Windows as well and integrates as cleanly as Microsoft. A software filewall is something you definitely want from your OS vendor and should always be just part of the OS.

What issue did you have with XP? I've never heard of an issue with the XP firewall.

The only issues I ever recall hearing about where that some where unhappy that XP didn't block outbound by default. And even today it's easy to setup. But then again I don't want normal users to do that to themselves anyhow.
