      Was doing some work this morning and noticed...

      [root@to-lnx-db2 ~]# uptime
       14:06:48 up 1002 days, 11:16,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

              While I see the need in rebooting periodically,.. why would this otherwise be an issue?

                That's all the reason it takes. If you need a system to be reliable, it has to reboot regularly or else you are constantly in an unknown state of danger.

                      My worry would be what is the machine was powered down for any unseen reason, would it be able to start again and function. I'm sure that there is a backup, but if its a VM backup, it would still be over 3 years since the last reboot.

                        Yup, no idea if it will reboot. Pretty scary.
