How wrong is this statement?

I disagree. The whole purpose of cloud computing is to be platform and hardware independent so users can access data from anywhere, anytime with any device. Amazon is the cloud based poster child. It's true you don't have to have a mobile app to be cloud based, but you do have to be truly cloud based to have mobile app. Otherwise, it's just a browser based SaaS. I do agree that most people don't understand the true meaning of cloud computing. Many indeed do confuse it with the internet...which is why Athena has gotten away with passing themselves as cloud based when they really aren't. And in the meantime...those of us who have been waiting and hoping patiently and giving them the benefit of the doubt are left frustrated and disappointed.

I saw this posted somewhere
Yes, completely wrong. Not what cloud computing means in any way. Not in the least. It has absolutely nothing to do with access methods or availability.

No idea what they are trying to say there. Tons of mobile apps (most, by far) are not related to cloud in any way and there is no cloud platform for mobile, so that's basically impossible today. But at the core, he's just making things up and doesn't understand any of the words that he is using.

The pot calling the kettle black.

Like himself, for example. Cloud computing is one thing, the cloud is another. He's talking about neither. -

Ding ding ding, we have a troll. That's all that this is.
-
What's sad is that he doesn't even realize he's a troll. He's spouting words that he doesn't understand, and other non technical types are following his lead because he SOUNDS like he know what he's talking about.

What is Athena? I have never heard of it.

It's an online hosted EHR (Electronic Health Record) company. While their solution isn't just one giant silo of data, 10's of to many thousands of clients all are in a single db on their servers in a DC somewhere - frankly I'm completely unaware of their infrastructure.. wasn't involved in the decision at all.

That's kinda what a troll is. Spouting words one doesn't understand is always a form of trolling.

As much as I'd like to go there and correct him, it's not worth the unhappiness my boss would push upon me when she reads it.

Want me to post somewhere? I'll happily link to the US government's official statement as to what cloud is.

I already asked him. It's nowhere we have access to.

And the vendor hasn't called them out for lying?
-
For Lying? Really? Other than yourselves (NTG) have you ever seen a vendor do that to a customer? This seriously makes me chuckle.
-
To be fair we are not a Vendor, but yeah most if not all Vendors truth isn't something in their vocabulary.

Well we are a "vendor" but we sell services, not product.

If they are committing libel? I would expect it.
