@Obsolesce this cooling unit is completely sealed and has no way of draining or being refilled.

        Oh I see.

It's hard to know what the exact issue is, whether it's thermal or power related. Intel's don't shut down until they get REALLY hot, and I didn't see evidence of that yet.

Is there a setting in the BIOS to control that? I don't think it does it until over 100 Celsius by default, though I'm not sure of the exact temperature.

I'm not sure how these water/liquid cooled units work, but if possible, you may want to check and make sure it's got water.

IDK either, all I know its an AIO enclosed system.

Ill try look again at the bios. But all i saw was monitor and ignore for CPU temps.

It doesn't appear to be getting cooled at all

Thats kinda my thought.. Possible water cooler not running? And only the metal is acting like a heat sink?

              That's plausible.

This kind of was my first gut feeling. IDK how long these things usually last.

They last for quite a long time. Definitely more than a year.

Dumb question but can your buddy see if the fans are spinning on this unit at all?

Directly on the CPU cooler there are 2 fans. Did you check that?

yea, the ones on the radiator are spinning. I am emailing corsair support as well to see what they say.

                          okay.

Can you get a $12 thermal gun and pull a heat read from the heatsink?

It would give you an indication if the heatsink is actually working as well as you can point it to other parts in the system and get a general idea how the entire system is being cooled.

Just ordered one. Should have it Saturday. Also will see how Corsiar responds to my ticket.

What kind of cooler do you guys recommend if I gotta buy a new one? The one I got should be under warranty.

If the cooler isn't working, your friend should want to replace the CPU and cooler. Not just the cooler.

So get whatever CPU matches the socket and a cooler for it.

Classic fans, while they make noise still work darn well.

ouch..I will be paying for the repair since its my cousin and i built it. he still in high school. So water cooling is actually not as good as old school cooling?

It can be good, but a lot of these closed units can't cope with an extreme situation.

Have you run an CPU stress testing on this desktop and see if it croaks?

Running stress tests against the CPU would at least tell you if the CPU is defective at this point. But it would be beneficial to actually be there to see it run.
