The article is a little confusing because it's talking about laptops and tablets in the same article. Cheap Windows laptops like the new HP Steam are competing with Chromebooks, although only on price as there are things I like about Chromebooks that can't be replicated on Windows notebooks. And I have no interest in Windows RT.

I tried to respond to this earlier but my iPhone died while I was typing.
I'm not sure how you are differentiating the Surface Pro from iPad here. One is a PC and one is ARM, is that all that you mean? Windows tablets are purely PC based now, they dropped the RT (ARM) platform and it does not exist anymore.

Windows on a tablet is pretty crappy. I've tried to use one, it was sad. But Chromebooks are laptops, not tablets. It is Android that competes here.
coming back to this post, you're simply saying that the current Surface line is just crappy, why? Not saying I disagree, I'm just looking for more information.

@Dashrender it's not an issue with the Surface itself, just the clumsiness of Windows on a touch interface. It's not smooth like iOS or Android and is an unpleasant experience. Hard to tell when you've selected something because it is unresponsive leading to touching lots of things and it just getting worse and worse.
The things that you want to do on a Windows device are not touch ready - only some Metro apps that you generally want to avoid. Using Windows on a tablet mostly means using the features that you try to disable otherwise because they are so poor.
If all you want is the weather it's fine. But you aren't going to get a nice, polished experience like iOS or Android.

Well they are effectively one and the same. RT was the name of Microsoft's only ARM platform product. So by not offering it anymore, ARM as a whole was dropped from the Windows universe except for their horrific smartphone mess.

I had heard that it was discontinued. Maybe I am wrong. My understanding was that RT was dead and just remaining stock was being sold and that nothing beyond basic patches would be coming for RT. Maybe they decided to keep it alive. I'm searching now and not finding where it was officially scrubbed.
