Have a client moving to a new (no technical debt), Windows 10 standard image build environment. They just decided to upgrade to this a few days ago, so we need to build out a supporting environment. We don't want to invest in another Windows server unnecessarily for something that it isn't useful for. What's the opinions on the best way to handle this? What imaging deployment tools that are free would everyone recommend?

I would think that Ansible and SaltStack are out since they typically don't have tie in to the Windows 10 OS AFAIK. Maybe a FOG server?

It works incredibly well, is simple to setup, and simple to maintain your images going forward.

Is it easy to update the image for Windows Updates and necessary applications?

I've never used Windows based imaging tools.

I just use the Win 10 free ISO to build the golden image and then sysprep it down.

I use Clonezilla to image once sysprep shuts it down.

I've used Fog for not only windows, but Apple and Linux as well, it just works.

Really a great solution, of course any imaging solution with Windows requires the appropriate rights. Not that it will physically stop you.

I use CloneZilla for imaging when possible, but to do any type of imaging with Sysprep on OEM devices you will need at least one VL license to do imaging.

No one is questioning the licensing. this has nothing to do with the question of how to do it.

It's a valid and relevant point. The whole point of this "discussion" is to discuss all aspects relating to this... and licensing is definitely related to Win10 and imaging.
