Either way, at the end of the day, RAID controllers are like cars...
People go with what they're comfortable with....you can argue (aka debate) the merits of one vs. the other.
Me, I could go either way.

They shouldn't be treated that way. Each has a place and each should be used where appropriate. Not much in IT should come down to opinion, it should be "appropriate addressing of the business case."

You are right, it shouldn't but I live in the real world & that's just how it goes.

No, but I can save a lot of IT pros.

@romo we've got several places where we might want to use that, and more soon.

Why? Agentless VM Level backups are useless. You've said that often enough.

Standalone meaning your "normal" Virt-manager style KVM install.

I'll update you tomorrow after I test some restores.
                          I've backed up a few vm's to AWS S3 & to on-prem servers.

Non-ideal isn't the same as useless. This is why these discussions are difficult. Why does something not being "the best for most cases" turn into "useless" as what people hear?

Jared likes Agentless. I tend to not like them, it's non-portable. And that specific thing hits us already with our current backups at some clients. So to address limitations of their existing agentless system, and their mix of hypervisors, kludges like this are necessary. Or a move off of their current agentless infrastructure that they paid a lot for.

Stop acting like I've ever said this. I said agent based is often better, and in the example here I just demonstrated why agentless caused a need for two backup systems instead of one. Please don't encouraging repeating things that people don't say, because some people actually start to believe that that has been said, they are that gullible.

I get it, but people start to repeat that stuff quickly and truly start to believe that there is a group who thinks that things are black and white and certain things that should be grey areas are actually black and white. Like instead of "agentless is rarely the best option" people start to believe "agent based is the only option." Or at least believe that a group of people claim such. It's happened a lot. RAID is a good example.
