I consider myself a careful user - but as such I have picked up some malware from time to time.

After seeing a post here a few weeks ago from Scott about how IT people keep their computers running better more easily than non IT people where one of the factors was that IT people don't run as local admin, I decided since I was rebuilding my PC I might as well start this rebuild off in that direction.

With the improved prompting for admin access it's tolerable - but that doesn't mean it's without it's pain points. One of the biggest ones is how when you install programs they are installed as that admin user. This can mean either a shortcut to that program is missing (not in your profile) or placed on the shared desktop so I can't delete it unless I invoke admin rights again.

Hopefully in a week or so this won't be as big an issue as I'll have the machine customized to how I like it and won't be installing programs every 5 mins.

I have to confess, I don't do any of the things listed in @scottalanmiller 's article. I'm a reasonable pro at work but a hopeless amateur at home.
