@scottalanmiller I know, the wife likes desert/sweet wines and drinks. I am a beer snob. It happens when you brew your own.

@coliver Have you tried Mead? Might be something you would like. Maybe a lambic like Framboise.

        Too sweet.

A splash of Framboise in a pint of Guinness (or other stout/porter) is fantastic. Also delicious in chocolate cakes, cookies, etc.

@rojoloco Oh WOW. Nothing better than Guinness on tap. I'm gonna have to try that. That sounds insane! Awesome.

The only way to say you drink for the health benefits, is to drink what the scientific community has agreed to what moderate drinking is:

            https://moderatedrinking.com/home/default_home.aspx?p=md_defined

Any more than that, it no longer applies and is being abused for the sake of justifying yourself drinking.

            "Per drinking episode"....

On today's episode of drinking, we will be exploring red wine....

Lol yeah, I chuckled at that too.

The takeaway is that, per drinking episode, once your BAC hits 0.055, it's no longer beneficial to consume alcohol, and not more than 12-14 drinks per week for men... still paying attention to all other details of what defines moderate drinking.

I like dessert wine. I like sweet liqueur. But mead is just.... drunk honey. It's too much for me.

Never could get into mead. But a good beer... stout, porter... yum.

Here is the same conclusion, however, a different definition of what "moderate drinking" is...

                  https://www.isitbadforyou.com/questions/is-alcohol-bad-for-you

Now the question becomes, what exactly is the most accepted and/or correct definition of moderate drinking.

Each country has their own, although they are relatively similar, but they do vary quite a bit.

I drink either a beer or whiskey or glass of wine almost every other day.

So they treat alcohol itself? Like, by adding water? Or just talking to it? I get the impression from that site that the NIH isn't even sure what alcohol is.

It's a very poor wording but the context clues show it is to treat alcoholism (or something like it) rather then alcohol itself.

The "context" being, confused doctors who don't know English?

If alcohol is so healthy, how come my pregnant wife cannot drink any? Right, it kills cells, all kinds.

There had actually been some recent research that says moderate consumption while pregnant has little to no effect on the fetus.
