Just a laptop and a charging cord. Nothing else is really needed.

My phone, so I'm still on call. And my brain. That's all I need to tell someone how to actually solve the problem.

I only need my Cell, my remote connection app is on my cell so no need for a laptop. Although I carry a laptop on my car.

Ditto. For anything major though, tablet with keyboard or a laptop is preferred.

My man purse contains my laptop, iPad, USB 2.5" drive enclosure, and various USB sticks to reinstall things.

I have a separate bag with physical stuff like USB to Serial adapter, Serial console cable, label maker, connector toolkit (cutters, crimper, tester, etc) to make patch cables, amd zip ties.

Being "on call" is far above my pay grade, but I do keep my phone reasonably nearby on the weekends. But my bosses don't really ask anything of me over the weekend, so it's a non-issue.

I guess I should have prefaced my reply above that it is my standard carry around. I do not do "on call" as it were.

So I always have my cell phone, which has remote desktop apps, etc, but for "real work", like needing to SSH to something and do some typing, I have a Dell tablet that I carry with me. However, typing on a touchscreen sucks, so I'll probably get a keyboard.

I pretty much have the same setup. 1 man bag with laptop/tablet, and 1 tech bag with tools.

I prefer Intel zip ties, thank you...

I think it's strange that you guys don't include the cyanide pill you keep in your back right molar as a part of your equipment. It may very well be the most important tool we have.

                              Why should I start now?

Until they pay me to be on call I only carry my phone. I do try and avoid planning weekend adventures far from cell service but they do happen.
