@dashrender said in Need some help with a better fax solution:

The last time I looked at the fact solution for my 700+ pages per day the cost was going to be in excess of $700 a month for a hosted solution.

This is why I kept it in the house onto a machine that I already owned saving to a network share but I could have just as easily sent it to an email group.

Monthly reoccurring fees are $30 for a pots line.
My machine has a printer driver that allows printing to fax. So there is no need to print something and walk to a machine.

We do about 200 pages a month or so which is going to cost us about $30 per month and then it sounds like if we go over that, it's still quite cheap.

Yeah, most of those cloud-based solutions are pretty reasonable at 500 pages or less per month but my volume is so high it was completely unreasonable.

How would 2 cents a page compare? Pay as you go? That's what Twilio is charging.

That would cost me $14/day+ Three days and I’ve paid for my POTS line.

Sorry looks like it's dropped to 1 cent per page.

But yeah that sounds like a lot of faxes. Is it medical?

Yep. We receive somewhere north of 600 pages a day and we probably send 500+ pages a month.

I’m house faxing on either a mopier or fax server is the only thing that makes sense for us.

Since we already have the mopiers and a network location to store them all we need is $30/pots line.

There is no per min cost. It’s $30 a month flat. Presumably I could keep it going 24/7 and still only pay $30/month

As it is, it’s running 6+ hour M-F.

We do actually have two pots lines to allow fast incoming faxes (ie two at once) and the occasional outgoing.

I also realize I could do some math for you 600 min x 22 days = 13,200 mins + 500 mins outgoing minimum. Just call it 14,000 mins.

                      So $30/14,000 = .214 cents a min

Out of curiosity, how much does your faxing cost per minute with your POTS line?

I also realize I could do some math for you 600 min x 22 days = 13,200 mins + 500 mins outgoing minimum. Just call it 14,000 mins.

                          So $30/14,000 = .214 cents a min

Ha! Your telco probably uses your account as an example of How-Not-To-Sell-A-Contract during sales training 😛

Think about when you used to do dial up internet.
My usage was as least this usually a lot more.

It's a little different when you own the copper in ground. VoIP is all about paying for port access at the interconnect and then brokering off those points at wholesale (6/6) minutes.

                            With a PRI/BRI it would've been metered.

.0021 is prime wholesale pricing for a CLEC. But that would be with T38. So the per page cost of 1 penny is a whole different apples to oranges thing.

So 700 pages a day is still $7 times 22 is $144 with Twilio per month. A lot better than $700. That vs 2 $30 lines plus tax, now only 200% more expensive. Lol

But you could do some things with the API to make sending and receiving a better workflow.

Lol IDK... Working from no info about your workflow, but assuming people are walking to a fax machine to send big faxes you could make a small app or process to suit your needs.

But if you're using a fax server, IDK

https://www.ringcentral.com/lp/smallbusinessphoneoffer.html - show this to your bean counters 🙂

I have this phone sitting on my desk for probably 3 years now, rock solid.

Yes, they are good phones. I have three of them I'd like to sell if anyone is interested.
