I'd be happier with a laptop and a dual monitor USBC/3 dock. There's some cheap i5 linux laptops that'll do Linux and cock.

Linux and cock is a useful feature

      That was a typo! (fixed)

It will live on in my quoted reply though...

Was it with a big video card?

The biggest black video card you could imagine.

This has USB 3.1 C with thunderbolt, so it will dock well, this may be a nice option. Sit it down on your desk, plug it USB C, enjoy it on your two external displays. Nice thing about usbc with thunderbolt, is it charges the thing too... so you only ever have to worry about one cord.

It's a 13", so it will travel nice.

At less than $1200, there's room for better configuration if you want.

If I had the money and needed something new, I'd go this route for sure.

You'll just need to get your own SATA drive for it.

With the Intel NUC does anyone know if Fedora works well there?

I would miss my 4TB 3.5" SATA drive, but I can buy a large 2.5" drive.

@scottalanmiller what about those HP boxes you linked. Any idea how well Fedora supports the hardware?

No idea, I've never tried on those. I've never used those at all, they just look really nice.

They do, that is why I am curious.

Until you try no one knows but as a general rule consider intel as highly compatibile briadcom as a mixed bag anything else as a no go...

If you don't want to build your own, consider just getting a kid from the neighborhood to do it for you.

I wouldn’t mind upgrading my XPS 8500 model to one of those. The one that I have works great with Fedora 26 Gnome.

HP EliteDesk 800 G3 would hit your requirements at $1157. 85 list price. That is with a SSD and a 3.5" 2TB 7200 RPM drive, so if you already have the drives and don't pay list price, it would be better. I haven't used the tower form factor since the micros came out so I haven't had my hands on one. The EliteDesk 800 Micro has been my go to desktop for about a year now, but it won't hold a 3.5" drive.

Worked with my rep @ CCB and have a quote for a machine to do what I need for ~$900 I gave up on the i7.

Found a special on the Dell XPS 8910 earlier today.

                                    Coupon code is XPS669.

                                    P.S. This has the I7.

                                      A link would be useful.

Edit: I figured it out. This is a 6th gen i7. That is why it is that cost.

@Danp so I can get the XPS i7 7th gen for what I am giving to HP.

Plus I do not need to buy an SSD because of the new Intel memory thing. Question is whether or not Fedora supports that

A little reading of performance websites tells me that Kaby Lake (7th gen) is only marginally better than skylake (6th gen) in general.

So not seeing how I care about 7th gen then.
