This weeks SMBITJournal entry is "When a Backup is Not a Backup". It this article I dive into defining what a backup is, and understanding how perceptions of backups can change. We often use the term loosely and attempt to use it specifically but with people that aren't completely sure how we intended to mean it. It dives into the ramification of misunderstanding the term backup when dealing with regulatory compliance, as well.

Probably, but I don't think it was as formal. And who knows how to find it 😉

But this post isn't formal either. It's mostly a link to your article.

SEO reasons. I used to post the full thing but Google demotes when it's the full content. This is still formal.

When I hear "our backups are fine, the server is configured with RAID." To which I respond that "RAID is not a backup. Backups are backups."

I'm surprised at how many environments I walk into and they have zero backups setup.

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

                    (Fork if you want)

Why is that? Does it consider it duplicate content?

                      Yes. It is duplicate.

Simplistically speaking, when it doesn't work.
If it works, then it's a backup.
If it does not work, then it's a waste of time and disk space.
