From what I have been reading, the heat dissipation issues in a form factor that size are causing the surfaces to last about 18 months.

          You're mis-reading.

You only have to make a downpayment now. You have to pay the rest before it's mailed.

Not a fan of the form factor but being not MS it might be usable.

It's from a team in Helsinki Finland. I bet a bunch of ex-Nokia employees got together on this one. Given how well all my Nokia phones worked, I'm guessing this will be a solid device.

It just makes me wonder - MS has all those resources, yet the SP4 and Surface Book had huge hardware issues (mostly if not entirely driver related) that took them 9 month to fix.

I understand that it's a hard computer problem to solve - or so they tell us (sounds like Intel actually had a lot of blame on this last round of chips), so I don't know how this small team can really compete?

MS has a lot of resources but is also crippled by politics.

wow, that's a lot of cutting off of their nose to spite their face. 😞

This is no different than any other business, same applies here and we aren't even remotely large. The business doing intentionally harmful things to its self.

Hard to get around politics when you are giant.
