When I attempt to download the client that way it attempts to send me to the VMware website which I cannot connect to.

what DNS server is the 2008 server pointing to?
      change it to 127.0.0.1

      and try again

Assuming DNS is running on the 2008 server, it should get internet access after you do this. If not, change it to google 8.8.8.8 and try again, if it works, download the client then change it back to the original.

Problem with that is how is he accessing this? RDP? He could lose access.

      My initial thought as well

since you have already downlaoded it, can you access the \server\c$ share form anything on the network ? even if not your machine and get the download copied?

why would changing the DNS change the connection?

Is it possible - sure, likely? seems low chances.

In this situation, I would not want to add the extra risk.

          Good idea..

How are you getting to the 2008 server (is it a VM on this same ESXi server?)? RDP?

Whatever machine can access it via RDP should be able to hit the admin share

After loggin into the console on the ESXi (in my case 5.5) I have the option to change the lockdown mode

Maybe you can do the same?

were you able to move the install file from your desktop to the 2008 server?

@Dashrender Supervisor came in for another update. I should just commit Seppuku. At least then I die as a warrior. Attempting now.

Did you talk to the supervisor about the absolute criticality of them not running interference for you? If you are not managing the situation, who will? If the supervisor is hindering this process, go over their heads. If their manager is not, go over their head. If they can't get their heads out of their asses, call whoever is in charge and explain that these guys are interfering and attempting to halt the process of fixing things. YOU are the fix it person here, you MUST control the situation. Don't let them walk all over you, they are making things worse and it is their job to not let that happen.

They don't give a shit Scott. They want to know what is going on and nothing I say is going to stop them. Trust me. It's wasted energy at this point. I will address it when this is all over and working properly

probably not in a write-able fashion though. so no good

so \192.168.10.x\c$ doesn't prompt you for a password of a network admin.

Didn't allow me to access it

DId you try by DNS name? that won't work.

                                            \\192.168.10.X\c$ not `\server2008\c$

I'm really distracted and I apologize guys. There are way too many people around me currently. I can access the sysvol folder

probably not in a write-able fashion though. so no good

so \192.168.10.x\c$ doesn't prompt you for a password of a network admin.

It might be turned off through GPO or UAC. I know ours is.
