Do you have access to the physical host? You may want to try logging in directly.... sometimes the fat client is very picky about which versions it likes to work with.

He claims the root password does not work

Is there a good way to crack that password? Have never had to breach that problem before.

Does ESXi have a console screen similar to XS?

More or less. It looks like a Linux command prompt, but there is like a nice TUI first.

You can get around it, yes. but it requires bringing everything down and I doubt that it is the real problem.

Because with XS you don't need any PW to at least access that and see networking info.

The default host screen show the IP. not the entire netowrk detail.

I see ESX01 and ESX02. ESX01 has the vcenter file, which is what I am accessing to view the VM's typically but nothing else

earlier - I wonder how many hosts he has?

Assuming the other PCs in the office where able to talk to the VM host (VMs on that host) they might have the same IP info setup.

                      run

                      ipconfig /all

on a PC on the network that you haven't touched since this problem started.

Also, try pinging the VM Host.

2 separate ESXi hosts that are functional. One in each building

                                    Perhaps some helpful information

The hardware is running ESXi and has it's own IP address - what is it?

You can find out what the IP of the ESXi server is by going to the data center and looking on the screen0_1473363989351_IMG_20160908_144434.jpg

The VM that is the down DC has it's own IP, what is it?
