      @travisdh1 good point.

I didn't think about it at the time, but that is very true.

@travisdh1 said in Cisco lays off nearly 20% of its work force:

@DustinB3403 Don't forget charging 3-4 times as much as the competition for the same functionality. Has to rear it's ugly head at some point, no matter what the execs claim.

But... but... no one got fired for buying Cisco...

Just like no one got fired for buying IBM, but somehow nobody was buying IBM desktops?

It's a frustrating mentality for sure.

Cisco has been investing in new products such as data analytics software and cloud-based tools for data centers, to offset the impact of sluggish spending by telecom carriers and enterprises on its main business of making network switches and routers.

Here's an idea. Don't make junk that's super expensive and people won't be sluggish to buy it.

As good of reports as I've heard from folks here and around about Ubiquiti gear, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on more of it.

@dafyre I have a switch, ERX, and a UAP lite. They are all fantastic.

I was neck deep in the command line configuration on the ER-X we got recently. The QoS settings in the gui just didn't cut it, so I had to go all BASH and configuration on it. Got the minimum rules added to QoS that we need, and I love the little thing even more.

Once people know that people say that, then they have to heavily question anyone buying the thing that people say that about.

20% is a HUGE cut. Is that the highest number that they can do without triggering something?

It is huge. That's a massive number of people. Cisco is putting on a good amount of spin by calling it a move toward SDN.

Everyone puts as much spin on downsizing as possible, that's their job. But downsizing means that they didn't have any strategic initiative in which they could use those people. There is just "less going on."

I haven't read anything that confirms the layoffs. The articles I've seen are all rumors.

Reuters reporting what they feel is credible information from CRN who says that its source is undisclosable insiders.

                                          20% of Cisco's employees!

You could make one hell of a company with just them alone.

My CDW rep called yesterday - I grabbed the phone before looking at it. I decided to tell him that I was interested in a quote for 15 UAP-AC Pros. He went on a 10 min side track about all the brands they sell and that he had to get me a call with his engineer (i.e. other sales gorilla). I read between the lines, there's not enough margin in UBNT stuff, so I really need to move you to a more expensive brand.

I told him that I really needed a vendor partner that would listen to my requests and sell me what I ask for. If I ask for options (which I should never do with them - instead I should be paying NTG for options), then I would be willing to hear about options. He didn't seem to like that so much, but told me he would get me a quote right over. It's been 30+ hours and nothing.
