@aaron said in Ubuntu Unity Desktop Now Available on Windows 10:

Windows was quite a bit better than Mac,

I dunno, really? Overall I want to run what my colleagues asking me for help are running.

That makes sense. Running Mac OSX helps you be familiar with what the most people need help with. That makes sense. When I ran OSX, I was definitely experiencing the same issues as lots of other people. If you are supporting people, matching your problems to theirs when possible is certainly sensible.

Although, when possible, I'd push to fix their problems rather than just replicating them 🙂

Remember, the issue is NOT a violation of the ZFS licensing, it is a violation (supposedly) of the Linux licensing. It is Linux being violated, not ZFS according to the FSF.

The second picture reminds me of Apple OS X by a lot.

Yeah, the floating middle menu bar has been copied a lot. I'm not sure if the overall design started with OSX or KDE. KDE definitely had it a really long time ago. The super sized icons, though, is definitely all OSX.

That would be awesome, but is that even legal? I'm guessing that if a company is in bankruptcy, there might not be any way for them to do it..someone else buys it and decides where it goes.

If someone buys them, then it is that new company that should decide. And they should do it immediately. Tons of stuff is bought and lost over time. Very sad.

Video games this is huge. How many 1980s games are abandonware. But someone still owns them all.

I have a couple of games that I can play on an old Lappy running Xubuntu.
With my growing distaste for the way that Windows and Microsoft work, it is good to know that if at any stage it all gets too much, I can still play games that others play.

This is going to be a very interesting one to watch. QT has long been a great widget toolset and available cross platform. Adding a layer of robustness for Windowing on top of that from the great folks at the KDE project has a lot of promise. These guys know desktops well.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind Unity if it wasn't so slow. I'd still prefer Gnome 3 because of the extensions though.

Yeah, the GNU/Linux people seem to have died off long ago. It was one of those big trends once upon a time.

Richard Stallman died off? .... (joke)

I swear, in EVERY conversation I've heard him engage, he spins the conversation into the naming (GNU/Linux... NOT Linux). I think in the flick Revolution OS he talked about it no less than 60 times.

That movie also hinted at what a total psycho Eric S Raymond also is with his bizarre explosive behaviour. He's also pretty... pretty extremely sexist and actually not even really that technical, he's more like Stallman. What I do like is him complaining about Stallman, sometimes it's pretty funny what he writes and calls him out on.

I don't remember him being explosive in that movie. Got any examples to refresh my memory?

Well when the interviewer brings up that some people compare open source to communism, something that actually almost never happens in real life, his face turns bright red, he flips out and gives a very 1950s ice America view of life under Marxism. As someone from such a country, it was really strange. It did seem like he was trying to restrain himself.

Haha I forgot about some of those lines. Thanks for the refresh. Been a while since I've watched that flick.
