MDaemon was my first "real" email server really liked it. Good to see it's still going

As I have mentioned before, we still use it here.

No it doesn't appear to support TLS. We're going ahead with a connector and be done with it.

Did you request smtp be unblocked by vultr?

It's blocked by default, so if you forget to request this on any server, outbound emails won't work.

The block is account level. Not per server.

My Open Source solution of choice is Mailcow.

I'm looking into MailCow now with the holidays approaching (a little more free time... hahaha, not really) and it looks really slick.

Free time? What is a "free time?

The time I'm sitting waiting for Comcast networking to catch up 😉

ah yes, comcast time. That is coincidentally the same time that is used for when you make an appointment. between 8 and 2

@Romo Exactamente.

is there some sort of anti-spoofing settings with Intermedia?

That's probably what is going on. I was working with their support last night and they said they couldn't transfer me to a level 2 tech because I wasn't listed on the account. This tech also told me that they allow anonymous emails on port 25, so I knew I was working with the wrong guy.

Yes, bottom line here is that Intermedia is incompetent. Which has been a question for a long time - why would anyone use Intermedia when Office 365 does the same stuff for lower cost but has Microsoft themselves backing it?

I think what he meant was encrypted from the e-mail client (Outlook, Webmail) to the MD server.

That's confusing because it isn't email at that point but is just an internal application API. If it is Outlook, for example, it talks directly with Exchange as a client manipulating stuff on Exchange. If it is OWA, it's Exchange that you are looking at directly (the "email" is still on Exchange.)

Why not just change the SMTP port?

You can't. SMTP uses port 25. Changing the outbound port only works if you control every posssible email destination.

Ah duh. I was thinking you were just sending email to yourself for some reason. Never mind.

@DustinB3403 said in SMTP is Email so what is the mail you get from logging?:

So the alerts are meant to be delievered via SMTP, therefore they are "email files" without the SMTP portion. Hence they are email.

There is no such thing. You can't just call all text files "email". If you do, literally everything is email. So the term is now lost. Go pick up your email from the dry cleaners so you can be home in time to eat your email for dinner.

hahahah I laughed way to hard when I read that on my phone!

For postfix to work for this i need to have the full SMTP+IMAP configured

You are associating SMTP and IMAP. They are unrelated. Completely and totally unrelated.

Postfix is SMTP, it has no association with IMAP handling.

Just install Postfix and your sending is fixed. Just put in your IMAP details of your Gmail account and your IMAP is fixed because your application absolutely has a built in IMAP client, that's what those settings are for. Those settings cannot work unless it is a client.

Can't you give Mandrill your DKIM private key? Of course that's probably not wise. In which case I'd setup a sister domainname for this purpose.

DKIMs seem interesting. Though without Secure DNS I'm not sure what good it really does, the Public Key listed in non Secure DNS can be spoofed by a MITM attack - though I'm not sure how much of a real concern that is.
