@NashBrydges side question. If you setup the .well-known to work correctly, why do you then need the HA? because nginx will never be down except for the momentary reload after the certs are updated.

That certainly addresses the biggest concern about a long downtime during the renewall process for a high number of certs and probably addresses most concerns with this client. He's already running Veeam replication to a second box so his RTO and RPO are relatively short and within his business tolerance.

Having said that, it's a great learning opportunity for me to set this up in my lab, if for no other reason than to try it and see how it works.

Certainly no reason not to do it for a lab. and for a proxy with as much as it sounds like you have in production, it will still be a likely good solution.

      Hi Kelsey,

First of all, as previously mentioned in the thread, the IPOD scenario is absolutely atrocious no matter how you look at it. You pay more to get more hardware to manage to get lower resiliency. Here is a very short paper on why it's particularly important to have HA or FT in a virtual inrastructure:
      https://www.starwindsoftware.com/fault-tolerance-and-high-availability-page

A way to play around IPOD is replicating local storage across the hypervisor hosts. Here is a doc describing how it's done:
      https://www.starwindsoftware.com/whitepapers/starwind-virtual-san-whitepaper.pdf

Also, our forums are pretty helpful and you can ask different virtualization, storage, HA questions there:

Thanks just that I might have some kit becoming available but they are all different Dell models, just wondered if the Hard Drive space/RAID matched that would be OK for a test lab,

      e.g.
      R610, 64GB RAM with 4x 600GB SAS
      R410, 64GB RAM with 4x 600GB SAS

Sounds like it will work just fine for a test lab, anyways, once you get down to testing, DM me and I'll get you in touch with an engineer, who will review your environment to make sure everything will work perfectly.

See now I want to purchase more lab equipment to test this. . . .
