Im guessing 'U' is fine. As I want vLAN2 to pass traffic where the device has already set vlan2 in its NIC. If the LAG is set to 'T', all traffic will be set to vlan2, right? Even when from vLan1/default...

I think it's better to tag every vlan in both ends. Then you can be certain traffic ends up on the same vlan on the other switch stack.

Adding swapping out RAM to the list. Haven't gotten any word back as to whether or not it has fixed it. Just found out that the user will be in China for a week and a half, so I won't really be able to try much.

      That'll slow things down.

Swapping RAM or him being out of the country?

      Being out of hte country.

OK lol. I thought that is what you meant.

@pete-s how does any of this make my sense at all??? Did anyone even read any of this thread before posting???

You say he CANT use 16gb sticks which he has CLEARLY done already and have worked but instead of giving good answers you guys pressure people to move on because the people commenting on here either can’t read or don’t know enough already...

This is aggravating because every post about the T410 gets cut off with nonsense like this crp...

He used 16gb sticks so remove your comment, or don’t make one and move on if you didn’t have the answer to the question you just made the question more confusing

If you read more carefully next time, you might not become aggravated. What is supported and what works are two different things.

Reason to move on from old hardware is because for companies IT is a business, not a hobby. Spending time on something costs money, so the potential benefit has to outweigh the cost.

I think all of Dell's PERC series RAID controllers are NVRAM for Cache? Meaning, no need for a cache battery module.

      Nowadays, pretty much.

We have both the Dell USB-C docks and a couple of the Thunderbolt models. So far we have had no problem with the USB-C. I even use one for my machine. The Thunderbolts were a bit problematic around the first part of 2017, but after several firmware updates they seem to have stabilized.

Plus MD1000 are for older SANs...

eh? It's just extending the internal storage... externally, hence "DAS". It has tons of use cases.

It does, but they MD1000s were mainly setup for SAN devices in mind. Yeah they can also be attached to servers as well which is not bad either. Just not my preference, nothing wrong with that.

Not sure what you mean, a DAS is a DAS... MD1000, MD3000, MD1200, MD1400... whatever. They are simply (as what Dell calls them, @scottalanmiller , not me) "Server JBOD Expansions". They aren't specific to SAN use and are not SANs.

Okay, I am not trying to go in a tangent and go in argument with you. Why does it need to be this way?
Reason for me saying that mainly Dell uses it for SANs see below:
      https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/povw/powervault-md1000

You still can use them for servers for user.

No arguing or disagreeing... I'm just not understanding where you're getting "SAN" from?

      it should be noted that

it's current build is Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17134.112]

it is possible that rolling back (if possible) to 16299.492 would resolve - which at a point - becomes a 'fresh install' as roll back expires.
And since this is a remote system, not convenient to do.

      Yes, it goes on Windows.

@dbeato said in Dell Machines Unable to VPN Due to SmartByte Bloatware:

@scottalanmiller said in Dell Machines Unable to VPN Due to SmartByte Bloatware:

SmartByte, a bit of bloatware or possibly malware - certainly closer to malware than not, is shipping by default on some Dell laptops and desktops. If you are doing a clean OS install as is best practice, this bloatware will be unknown to you. But if you keep the random stuff that ships with your machine, you may run into networking problems. SmartByte has been found by Cisco (and us, now that we know about it with clients) to break network connections and specifically has been found to cause VPNs to fail to connect.

You'll need to disable, or better remove, or best do a proper, clean OS install, to get your machine able to network reliably.

None of my Dell Devices has ever come with this. Not even laptops bought through Amazon. In the past Dell and HP have had the Cisco AnnyConnect client but that is found more on home and retailers like Best Buy, Staples or such.

Then again I don’t buy Dell Inspiron (Which are the ones with SmartByte for sure)

I never run into it because I would never run a machine without doing a proper OS install, you never know what is on there. But we ran into this (and I've been ranting about how people got into the process of not doing a clean install - dealing with that separately) just now because someone had a machine that didn't get installed and, of course, terrible bloatware problems.
