@Dashrender was scroll lock somehow activated/pressed?

Always possible.. but she definitely didn't accidentally click it while I was watching it not work... then suddenly just start working again

I have seen weird/slow response with the video/hardware acceleration turned on. Try disabling it.

      Hello.
I tried rdp connection to the server by entering the ip address with relative port (192.168.1.66:1512) and it worked. I do not understand why the problem occurred with the installation of the latest Windows 10 release (April 2018).
      thank you. regards.

That is why I tell people the policy is to reboot every night before you leave for the day. Most people do... some don't. This is the exact reason why this is the policy.

Yup, I agree, end of day reboots are the smartest if you can get people to do it.

Most of our people do - the few (really the one) who doesn't is also the one in charge. I can't make them.

Sure you can. If it is company policy, you simply create a schedule task to reboot machines.

      LOL - You're on a roll today!

Just stop covering up bad behavior.

You, and others make it sound like I have a choice here - I only have two choices, perhaps three - 1) quit
      2) according to you all ignore her
      3) just stop talking to you all about trying to find solutions to provide to attempt to fix things.

No, you are missing the one thing we all recommend...

The CTJ talk. The talk where you give her the options and make her choose. You don't make up the options, you just enumerate the ones that exist.

No one has suggested any of the things you think we are recommending and missing the one choice we almost all agree on.

Can you spell out those options, apparently I've missed them.. .I feel like I've already gave her said options.. and she chose the one not on the table - to do nothing and still complain about it.

At which point, my option option is to basically ignore her - stop caring, whatever you want to call it, it's basically the same thing.

You can come up with the range of known options. Examples:

Use Google Apps and live with their save mechanism. Use local Excel and live with it's save options, either auto or off. Use Excel online and live with its save options. Use a different application, like OnlyOffice. Use Excel with auto save but get a "save all changes" storage system like Exablox

Tell her what is possible, that's your job. Afix prices and info to each. Then make her decide. Then any complaints you just tell her "hey, talk to the person who made this decision... you".

I checked just now to see if indexing was installed and setup on the server for this share.

      Installed - check
configured for this share - negative.

So I checked the box for the required folders and now it's indexing. We'll see if this makes any difference.

@momurda said in Win10 won't highlight selected items in File Explorer:

I see this happen sometimes. It actually selects everythign but you cant actually see that it has. Luckily this has always gone away when i reboot.

In my case it was selecting only the one item being clicked on, as evidenced by the status bar at the bottom of the window.

The weird thing for my user - the busy cursor came up when they double clicked on the item, but (in this case) Excel never opened. The busy cursor was still there when I arrived about 25 seconds later.

I had the user check task manager - nothing was hung, the CPU was yawning at 10% usage, RAM was under 3 GB used (8 in the machine).
I had the user return to File Explorer, and try again, first try (at my request) - nothing, second try - it opened.

The lack of opening makes me thing the user is was moving the mouse between clicks, though I can't prove that.

FYI - I've set two of the machine (one laptop and one desktop) to not sleep for 3+ hours. We'll see if this makes any difference. The laptop user is not very mobile, so they rarely move the laptop (close the lid, etc).
