I don't agree with that. It isn't like posting a thread in IT discussion or Water Cooler. Those effectively disappear, but there aren't many job postings so those stay relatively visible. If your intention is looking for a job, you would go into the job posting section and see what is available. If you see a listing that is a few weeks old, you could comment or PM the original poster and ask if it's still available.
Okay, that makes sense. If you are looking only for the people looking for a job and not those looking for it to pop up and being something that they look at even when not looking. Right now while there is little job posting traffic, that works.

That's a valid approach, potentially. It would be really nice if we had a thread splitting option to take those discussions to a new thread.
This would only be good as long as there is a link to that discussion thread very high up in the Job posting thread so people can see there is discussion going on regarding this posting.
That's easy to do. Just make a post that says that there is a continuing discussion prompted from but not actually about the post itself and provide a link to it.

No, that's really why I was asking. It's always just been another part of the discussion forum. That some people felt that it should be treated with kit gloves rather than open to normal discussion was surprising, to me.

Alternative to moderation:
Single posts allowed in the Jobs Posting, but then a discussion thread can be created that is linked back to the OP for 'bantering'. Keeping the Jobs Posting limited to single messages only. -

I can understand why it might be best left to just the posting and detail-oriented questions. When everyone starts knocking the posting, it loses credibility in general, as I think @IRJ was saying. I agree with you that the discussion was warranted, but maybe it should have been linked to an actual discussion topic elsewhere and not cluttering up a specific job posting. Really, I am agreeing with just about everyone's points. Nothing wrong with discussing, but do it in the right place. If you disrespect my wife, we should take it outside, and not trash the restaurant.

Read the post by @art_of_shred . It isn't too hard to know the difference between a relevant question and discussion that could be considered negative. I think different rules should be posted and it should be moderated according to those rules. I don't see it as something that is going to need much or any extra moderation if the rules are clearly laid out.

Questions related to the job posting such as What is the pay scale etc. would of course be allowed. No Discussion should be though.

No - you are quite correct. Those questions should be with the OP, there is no logical reason why those details should be separated from the OP.
But is that not why we are having a discussion about it?
