Cell phone issue I can't seem to fix. I've got avg on my phone, it seems to throw weird websites and sends me to Google store when I'm online or have another app open.

I have the phone scanned very day and never shows anything or issues.

Here's what it's doing to me:

What websites are you going too when it does this? Click bait websites will do this a lot.

Also what WiFi are you on? It could be DNS poisoning.

Its any website or any app I pull up. And happens when I'm on WiFi or not. My husband has the same phone but I'm the only one having an issue.

Is your phone rooted? Either way I'd to a factory reset.

              Uhm,.. get an iPhone?

Do you get any type of actual error or just a redirect? Does it point you to the same site: appfreedownload.org? or is it a random site and changes?

Random sites but mostly that one and sends me to the Google store to download games. IPhone, ha your funny! I'll stick with my droid, even with all its issues I still like it more than Apple.

Do you have an anti-virus solution on the phone?

AVG is installed from the OP.

It does sound like a factory reset is in order.

Probably an off topic question. Has AVG, Webroot, or Malwarebytes released any data about the effectiveness of their android solutions? Last I heard they were just for peace of mind and not actual protection.

I was wondering the same thing, how effective can they be since they can't operate at Root level?

Since you mentioned it, I spoke to @Nic a few weeks about about the WebRoot AV for smart phones. My understanding is that it was more for safe browsing then an actual AV solution.

I could be mis-remembering this though.

I'm sure you're right. Without root access you can't get below any other apps to know what they are doing. I'm not even sure how it can do real web filtering for the same reason.

They only way to do web filtering is to have a process that is also a device manager. Most of them will just block other browsers from running and require you to use your own. It's slightly more than you can do on the iPhone since even thirdparty browsers are just Safari with a wrapper around it.

Yeah on the iPhone, Webroot just gives you a free browser that can function with the password manager, and also checks your browsing against our reputation database.

The Android versions are fully featured AV and are available in both free and paid versions.

I reset it, seems to still be acting strange but I'll give it a few more days. The phone originally came with lookout, didn't put AVG back on, let's see if that makes any difference.
