Now that Google Fiber is rolling out quickly, is Google Wireless the next big step?

Using such high frequncies is going to be odd. They will have to spend a lot of money to get any decent coverage as you'd need radio's pretty often at 81GHz to 86GHz. Antenna distribution or even a centralized tower approach won't work because of the short of wavelengths. Short wavelengths have very very high loss and are easily absorbed by the air, water etc.

I think that they are only looking at short line of sight, last mile stuff.

So just covering people that already have google fiber then? Look like using a Femtocell would be better as it would use the same technology phones are already using. Especially since they say "hopes to provide ways for phones to more easily move between cellular networks and Wi-Fi connections, perhaps even juggling calls between the two."

Google has been providing WiFi to Silicon Valley for quite some time, I would think with their fiber rollout the next big step could be to use the fiber as a backbone and provide WiFi.

From the Article it's not going to be Wifi but, more like cellular with a new frequency spectrum. Which is odd to change it up either way, especially since their target is cell phone users.
