reading things at the top of the vertical monitor would seem to potentially be an issue, no?

I have a custom built stand up desk at home now, but I am thinking about making another station just for my work stuff. I have some extra monitors lying around.

Nah, it's not bad. Having that for code is much nicer. That was kind of a low picture. At sitting height it's not that bad.

Nice setup. Man, I wish I had that much light. I'm in my dimly lit dudgeon.

@pmoncho Yup, it's in the attic. Having some skylights helps a lot.

Keep thinking about putting those in my kitchen but the many people I have spoke with always mention how they leak after 5-7 years. I have enough roof problems. 🙂

Our house had skylights installed in the 90's.
We moved in 4.5 years ago and they do not leak yet.

I actually just had two spaces setup for this, but only one sit-stand desk. Having that feature alone made me ditch me "work only" space and use just the one.

Since I have laptops, moving a few cables (hdmi and keyboard although I could just get a logitech keyboard) isn't a hassle.

@pmoncho This is something I've considered (albeit smaller in form) to get a more natural feeling light.

Dang. Nice to know there are some builders/installers that can put in a quality product correctly.

Another issue I have is my attic runs the length of my house so I would have to fashion some type of insulated duct work to reflect the light (only about 3'). Most of the house is dim except for the living room.

@pmoncho newer sunlight's have a no-break seal/membrane that gets installed around them too. So even bad installers can't really screw them up unless they try.

You'd have to take a look at the different options.

Thanks for the info. I have not looked in about 7 years but will take another look. Its either a sunlight or recessed lighting. Much rather have the sunlight though with less recessed lighting.

For those of you with home offices, do you have a completely separate computer setup for accessing your work things? I'm thinking of setting up another desk, just to use with my work laptop and getting separate Keyboard, monitors, etc for that setup.

I have two full desks, each with two monitors, each with a desktop. All in one room. I have a dedicated office room (I'm WFH full time so this is important). I have a full desk phone as well.

I wonder if firms might get sued. I haven't heard of anything happening. Obviously when Covid is over, many people will continue to WFH, but firms aren't going to get away with this. I wonder how it will be dealt with.

People are free to provide whatever they need for their individual needs. I can see there being a requirement to offer some kind of stipend for buying that stuff, or letting people take it home, but I imagine it'll be hard to sue for not bothering to get what you needed and how can you say you needed it if you didn't already have it?

Yeah, That's exactly what I am thinking about doing. Another desk. Need to separate work/home a bit more.

I think his argument is that they provided that stuff at the office, but aren't providing it at home - for example, a good chair. I don't know about any place else, but we aren't allowing people to take their chair for WFH.
Nor are we allowing them to take their desk, we expect people to provide their own desk. The same goes for internet access, we expect them to provide that as well. though I see both sides of the who should pay for internet situation, if you're working in an office, the office definitely doesn't have to pay for your transportation to from work, and one could argue that your providing internet at home is like providing transportation to work.

Most places I've seen have simply asked people what they'd prefer, WFH or office or of course some combination. Those that want to WFH are allowed to take their equipment and setup a space in their homes to work from.

At least in NY, when a company provides equipment to an In-State employee, that equipment is the companies, and unless it's across state lines it's pretty easy to just send the Sherriff over to collect any unreturned equipment.

That was pretty cool. Based on the layout of my basement, I don't have a place to properly setup the dish. Although the small dish maybe doable.
