Did the install on Fedora require any different or additional steps compared to the Ubuntu instructions?
What flavor of Fedora did you use?
I think the Fedora install might have only been the client side, not the server side.

Did not install the server on Fedora. The server is on Ubuntu. The client worked on Fedora, and without any effort like ScreenConnect. Fedora 29 Cinnamon, a vanilla install. Just worked.

I'm a paid user of ConnectWise Access and luckily I predominantly support Windows PCs and Servers, as the ConnectWise Linux agent is less than ideal.No Wayland issues yet.
There is no Java anywhere.
It is all nodejs from what I saw.
Yup, haven't seen anything that isn't NodeJS. But no idea what the agents are written in.

No, haven't seen any need for it yet. The system is still lightning fast.

It depends on how you setup MeshCentral and how lockdown your devices and/or network is.
With MeshCentral, you can set it up has a LAN only, WAN only or LAN+WAN (hybrid).
You can also restrict access via IP address for User or Agent. -

I mean it's up to you how you want to design it. I would say putting it behind a VPN is the smart way to do it. Like mentioned earlier, it isn't necessary. However, it greatly reduces your attack surface.

What attack surface? The only thing you access is the web interface.

My is setup behind a proxy and meshcentral is setup with 2FA.
