      G'Day Lads and Lasses,

I replaced my PSU the other day and I have had issues now with tthe PC shutting down randomly.
I have discovered that the issue is to do with the CPU temperature sikng up to >97C in Windows and about 83C when sitting in the BIOS.

The fan is going flat tack but isn't making a difference.

      • I've checked the dust in the fn etc and it seems to be clear.
      • Triple checked that the right rails are connected to the right locations

Is it possible that the rail going to the CPU is over-volting it? I know that there is supposed to be in-built protection against this but I'm unclear on how that actually works.

      General system temperature is normal.

One big difference that I noticed with the PSU is that the new PSU to CU rail has the full 8 pins but the old one only had 4... I'm certain that this makes no difference but it is the only other major change other than the PSU.

      Any Ideas?

So, I swapped everything back to how it was pre new parts (old HDD and old psu). No changes. looks like my system is dying.
Cpu temp is still sky high.

Great, that's all I need. The one thing that I can't replace this side of July.

Righto, looks like I bumped the CPU cooler and it wasn't sitting on the CPU correctly.
Attaching the locking pins again has helped, slightly, but it's not completely sorted.

Anyone else got any ideas of things to try?

@nadnerB Did you reapply thermal paste after you knocked the CPU cooler?

That would be the place I start. I've gotten into the habit of doing this whenever doing upgrades to my PC... Especially when the cooler becomes dislodged. Air pockets between the cooler and the CPU can cause crazy temperature spikes.

You can pick this up at most retailers. Even Staples sells this! Works great!

Not here, you go to a computer shop (that sells parts) for this stuff.
