Apple shares its vision for macOS 10.15 Catalina: Cross-platform apps are key

The future of macOS is in iOS—but there's other new stuff to be excited about, too.
The next major operating system update for Apple's Mac computers will bring new apps, a handful of quality life improvements, and, most importantly, a far-reaching initiative to (at least partially) unify the app-development process across devices running iOS and macOS.

Didn't Microsoft try this approach with Windows 8? It didn't go so well for them.

Not really... MS tried (continues to try, though I think they are finally about to give up on it) their "modern" apps platform. This wasn't apps designed for Windows Mobile that could also run on Windows desktop - it was still mostly desktop only... with some smattering of crossover here and there - as I understood it.

For MS they were trying to unify to disparate platforms. For Apple, it's process unification. Both platforms are already pretty close and ru the same code.

Microsoft and Oracle Expand Offerings with New 'Cross-Cloud' Support

Microsoft and Oracle on Wednesday together announced an expansion of their partnership, with new "cross-cloud" capabilities for larger organizations to tap.
Both companies, as providers of public cloud services to organizations, have been competitors, but they've nevertheless had a close partnership for the last six years around their hosted applications and services offerings.

Latest Metasploit module is being kept private, but time is running out.

lol - I'm glad I'm only running three Windows 7 and one windows XP machine (and XP is on it's own little network).

We''ve got mostly 2k8 stuff here that's affected, but none that allow RDP from off-site.

Office Configurations Can Now Be Saved to Microsoft's Cloud

Microsoft recently added an improvement to its Office Customization Tool for Office 365 users that lets IT pros save configuration files in Microsoft's datacenters.
The enhancement permits IT pros to "create, edit and access your deployment configurations from one central location, your Office 365 tenant," Microsoft explained in a Wednesday announcement.

In some cases, it's trivial for remote attackers to execute commands with root privileges.
Millions of Internet-connected machines running the open source Exim mail server may be vulnerable to a newly disclosed vulnerability

The clever cryptography behind Apple’s “Find My” feature

You can track down your stolen MacBook, but no one else can—not even Apple.
When Apple executive Craig Federighi described a new location-tracking feature for Apple devices at the company's Worldwide Developer Conference keynote on Monday, it sounded—to the sufficiently paranoid, at least—like both a physical security innovation and a potential privacy disaster.

Never heard of Exim? It's a MTA so it's the mail server software that actually sends and receive emails from other servers.

These are the most popular mail servers on the internet:

                                            • Exim 57%
                                            • Postfix 35%
                                            • Sendmail 4%
