@WrCombs The amount of time (read: money) spent on trying to fix this isn't worth it anymore. I am guessing a new computer could have been paid for shortly.

I seriously doubt it. Clearly there is nothing more pressing for @WrCombs to work on, otherwise the boss would have him move on - or drive out and fix it it right.

It's also likely that the customer is paying a monthly support fee, not an hourly one, otherwise the customer might complain about a $1000 bill to 'fix' a computer compared to wipe and reload.

Someone is paying him to do this. Since it is a maintenance contract, I am surprised that his boss hasn't intervened enough to resolve it.

Boss told me to keep looking at it.
Its rebooting after hours so it's not "an emergency" im just tired of seeing it.

So we use Microsoft visual C++ 2005,2008,2010,2012 Redistributable.
We have 4 of each in the programs and features

4 of each? Usually, you would have x64 and x86.

okay, not 4 of each. here: ill show you.

@WrCombs are all those multiple versions required? I thought a new one would supercede the last one.

OK. Those are just different versions. Some programs "require" a specific version. I have run into issues where I have 2013 installed and the program won't install. I need to uninstall that version of the 2013 runtime and let the program install the version of 2013 that the installer comes with.

                gotcha gotcha.
so it's very much possible that we need all of these.

It is possible. It is also possible that some are no longer needed. However, I would be surprised if those are the cause.

yes, nothing to suggest it would cause a reboot.

I have always just been informed that it only happens when they run a refresh on their front of house pos
which tells me its something with my software.

either the software or the SQL db that is in use to update the front of house.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. Our old ERP requested/required a daily reboot after the backup... it was crazy.. but not my system to manage.

this happened 45 seconds before the reboot.
Looking back, this happened a few different times before reboots.

I think I figured this out.
Aloha uses a ctlsvr (control service) to run the front of house.
it was set to log on as /.*user* and not local system, which would cause the Dcom error I was seeing above.. Right?

I ran a refresh this morning after changing to local system and no reboot. no errors in the events log.

Customer emailed my boss and told him we aren't helping them nor are we resolving his issues.
