We have a linode instance of 32GB: 8 CPU, 640GB Storage. Some users are saying that they are having to wait long periods to upload files to our install of Moodle on this instance. Simple files of 2-3MB take 20-30 seconds. This wouldn't be a problem except that most of our users are uploading 20+ files and have to upload them individually to each student.

I have tested the issue on other internet providers (not just here on campus) so I know it is an issue on Linode's side but how do I troubleshoot?

How long has it been doing this? New thing, or always?

Also what is their upload speed as well?

I am not sure as to the time frame. With some of my users I don't hear things until a month or two past when it originally started.

We have a 200x200 fiber connection on campus and most have a 100x10 cable connection at home.

You could run a SpeedTest from the Linode VM itself.

Hmmm... that comes back way better than expected. Of course, it is possible to prioritize speedtests...

                    That doesn't matter.

I hate how stupid people get on this.

Prioritized or not, a speed test to anything past the immediate ISP network proves line speeds.

Once that is proven, then you can move on knowing there is solid internet connectivity to the test site. Obviously, you should test more than a single server.

The above does not mean there may not be issues with the network due to hidden traffic shapers and shit. But very few ISPs do that to a significant level.

I think a fair number do. I've had several do it.
