Webroot to be acquired by Carbonite

Just got this in my email as we are a Webroot customer. Not sure how I feel about this yet. I think Webroot is great but have never been a fan of Carbonite.
I'm excited to announce that Webroot has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Carbonite, a leader in cloud-based data protection.
This is great news for customers and partners. The combined Webroot and Carbonite will offer an integrated solution for your top security needs today, and a platform for us to build upon in the future. When surveyed, small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) and managed service providers (MSPs) consistently name endpoint security and backup and recovery services among their top priorities. We see great opportunities ahead in building on the Webroot solutions you trust — endpoint and network protection, security awareness training and threat intelligence services — and extending them to backup and data recovery, and beyond.
Just as important as complementary products, Webroot and Carbonite both have cultures dedicated to customer success. We do the right thing for our customers and partners. You can continue to expect both great solutions and great customer support from us, backed by same team you know today, whether you buy from us or through a channel partner.
Until the transaction closes, we must operate as separate companies. I look forward to sharing more information about our plans after close, which we expect to happen in the first calendar quarter of 2019.
Lastly, a reminder that cybercriminals often use transactions like this as cover for phishing attacks. Webroot will not be changing our banking details or payment processes in connection with this acquisition, and if you receive any communication suggesting otherwise it is likely a phishing attempt. Please call our Accounts Receivable department (number listed on every invoice and statement) to verify the communication is from us. We always recommend implementing security awareness training to ensure you and your employees are aware of the risks of phishing and other threats.

Yeah, I got spammed by those emails as I have many clients with Webroot.

Well, I just re-upped for one more year so I have a year to decide.
Normally, I am not a fan of buyouts. Very rarely does it actually work to the users benefit.

Especially given that the most common reason for a buy out is to get the customer list.

Honestly, I feel like this is an odd pairing. Why would a backup company want to out an anti-virus company? There aren't really complimentary products.

Yep, Just like when a local communications company bought out my local managed backup company. Needless to say, that relationship didn't last that long.

I re-upped last September, I believe. I have not been that impressed by webroot. I have had a few issues in the year and a half that I have used them. I can't imagine this will make them better.

I re-upped last September, I believe. I have not been that impressed by webroot. I have had a few issues in the year and a half that I have used them. I can't imagine this will make them better.
AV vendors seem to be super cyclic. One gets good, others get worse, but it is like a lava lamp, they just changing position. Except for a few like Symantec that never get good.

@scottalanmiller I use Bitdefender business at home. Everyone but me is on fb and youtube constantly so I want something decent. Think its like $120 a year.

@scottalanmiller Yeah, I have posted throughout the years asking which vendor was good at that time. I had used TrendMicro Officescan prior to WebRoot. Administration wise, with a few gotchas, webroot is much better with the cloud interface, but they have had some issues that caused downtime.

I have some customers running BitDefender since they did not want to do Sophos.

We have been mandated to switch to Bitdefender away from Kaspersky (Political decisions, sigh). Kaspersky wasn't that bad, and it did work relatively well compared with the competition.

not a fan of webroot. Think they never got past their consumer brand and focus. Carbonite started great and I have had some good and some bad experiences with them . I just think there are way better solutions out there then both of these by far.
